Re: How to prevent your pc from 90% of all malware in 30 seconds

just added new user [w/o admin rights], rebooted.
My puter seized, hadta call Geek Squad.
System back up... I now know what it takes to discharge the CMOS settings in my Dell LOL.
Needless to say, new user [w/o admin rights] got deleted.
Currently no malware probs, i said, wtf, I'll try it...

When adding a new user, which means a task that is no more complicated than creating a folder with a routine of known files, there's no way that can mess up a healthy system.

System back up... I now know what it takes to discharge the CMOS settings in my Dell LOL.

Resetting the BIOS manually seems in no way an appropriate action for that. Why would you do that?

Needless to say, new user [w/o admin rights] got deleted.

Once a user is created, it doesn't get deleted by the OS magically, seriously.
Maybe the creation of a new user failed, but thats also not very likely.

Probably before though.

not that its any less stupid, but i think he means that he deleted the new user account because he thought it was the cause of whatever it is he's talking about there.

Booting to safe mode or in worst case booting from the installation media would have been sufficient too.

At least you got rid of the mess.

Having an outdated OS will simplify the process of privilege escalation ( gaining admin rights )

Maybe a new install helps this time?

I don't even gave PS permanent admin rights and just checked that updates are working for me.

Did you enter a password for your admin account?

Such things might happen if you don't set a password for the new created account.

You don't have the rights to turn it on but no popup is asking for your admin pw?

If so, I assume you have UAC switched off.

Log in to your newly created admin account, check if UAC is switched on (settings as high as possible) and also check if the ps client updates are working on the admin account if you find that UAC was on already.
