Contrary to what some sellers of wireless equipment want you to believe, this won't increase range. N only will provide higher throughput at a given distance, as long as signal strength is relatively strong. (I more-or-less copied this from an FAQ on
smallnetbuilder.)
OP, in order to help, we need a lot more info.
What WLAN router do you have? What WLAN standard do you use (802.11g, 802.11a, 802.11n, etc)? How far is the laptop from your router? Significant obstacles such as walls in between the two? Do you have neighbors living in close proximity to your place? Are you using 2.4 GHz cordless phones?
