Help needed with Monitor advice for new MacBook Pro Help needed with Monitor advice for new MacBook Pro

Hi,

I just got a new MacBook Pro and I'm having issues with mouse appearing to be lagging & jittering when I move the cursor.

I bought a dongle to plug two old monitors into the MacBook Pro by hdmi and I've read they're limited to 30hz which is probably why mouse appears to have lag/jitter when moving it.

I'm looking into getting a new 4k or 5k monitor to see if it solves the mouse lag/jittering and then proceed with buying another monitor for dual display.

Any recommendation would be appreciated!

Google the Apple forums, I had a similar issue and if I recall it was a simple mouse setting being weird. Mine is a 2015 and I can't recall if it happened on this one when I bought it or after a OS upgrade. Click the Apple, preferences, mouse fiddle with for a minute first just in case.

4k/5k displays...tricky right now. I like them, but I think we're in that spot right now where the real choice on the desktop are either nice 2560x1440 IPS options, or blow a ton of cash on a full on a very limited selection of 5k. For a lot of people a 4k is just going to be a very pretty 1080 - which is fine for a lot of folks, but I much prefer the real estate. You get a pair of decent-ish IPS 1440s for $600-$700 today and despite my appreciation for high-PPS displays on everything else I'm not unhappy with my office monitors.

You didn't mention usage or budget

Thanks for the advice I haven't been following the monitor scene.

I'm trying to get something good for poker with multiple charts and graphs + whatever.

I have two 2560x1440 monitors where one is by hdmi and the other is by dvi.

I'm not educated on what the best adapter is to be plugging everything in or if it even matters (hdmi or dvi).

One of the 2560x1440 monitors is starting to flicker.

I've researched when getting the 2017 MacBook Pro there is the ability for 4k/5k displays and people have been raving about them.

I think the extra cash on a 5k might be nice if the extra resolution is really a productive gain for excel, graphs, charts and whatever but I'm unsure.

Not really into watching movies on the thing because of a nice stereo & tv setup.

No real budget and just focusing on functionality. I don't like to splurge on unnecessary ****.

Be aware that the connection to the 4k display (I've never heard of a 5k display) will likely be 30 hz at the native resolution. I think you need HDMI 2.0 to run 4k at 60 z
