couldn't really find anything useful from google so gonna post it here.

My laptop has VGA and HDMI outputs. I'd like to connect my main display via HDMI and my 2nd display via VGA. But i'd also like to connect my TV... Will it work if I split the HDMI output with a splitter and connect both my main display and TV. I'm guessing the cheapest splitters in ebay etc are POS so i'm thinking about buying one more normally prized, maybe 20-30EUR. Can I have both the display and TV turned on at the same time? What happens to the signal, is there enough power for both devices? or will the newer splitters amplify the signal? what happens to the audio? split as well?

would it be better to split the VGA to my TV and secondary display? would need and extra cable for audio though but i guess it wouldn't be a problem

edit: ok actually thinking about using a VGA splitter for secondary display and TV and RCA for audio. Just wondering if the signal is strong enough or will the splitter **** it up too badly?

with any splitter, you can only send one signal through. So connecting the laptop and TV to the back of the splitter will only allow one signal to come out the front.

are you talking only about HDMI? And what is the difference between an HDMI splitter and an HDMI switch then?

Or is there any? Switch just allows you to have everything connected and you can control which port is active or...?

But VGA splitter shows the picture on both screens simultaneously, right? At least the website i was looking at advertizes VGA splitter as a way to show the picture on two displays and even mentions that because there is no amplifier the signal will be weaker.
Just wondering how much weaker...

With an HDMI splitter you can send the HDMI signal out of your computer, into the splitter, then send the two signals of the splitter to both your monitor and TV. The signal on the monitor and TV will be mirrored. The splitter should also accommodate audio.

You will generally not have a problem with weaker signal if using an HDMI splitter since it is all digital instead of analog.

I would definitely recommend splitting HDMI over VGA.

It should work fine. The only time you may have a problem is with cheap splitters and copy protected content / players.

A splitter basically replicates and displays the same image on both monitors. I would recommend checking KVMSwitchTech as they offer a wide range of HDMI Splitter and VGA Splitter products.
