Blackmagic has a disc speed tool, you might give them a shot.

best router? my cable doesn't make it across my house and I've always had 2 internets because of poker but would rather just figure out this problem and get rid of the DSL. SOmeone told me to get an Asus router and that would fix it. Is that the best?

If you are talking wireless router, Maximum PC liked this one.

My posting this link shouldn't be considered an endorsement of Dell. It was just one of the first results that popped up when I googled the router.

It looks like this is the general question thread but if it is it would be nice if it were labeled as such as it would increase the functionality of this section. Anywho.

I was playing my league's tournament last night and I had both my table and the lobby up when I experienced something I had never had happen before. Understand that I've always played this way before without anything happening but last night was different.

About two hours into the tournament, my table would periodically blink/disappear. Sometimes it would be a quick blink and sometimes parts or all the table would disappear for a few seconds. It didn't happen to the lobby, just the table and I asked the other players but none were experiencing what was happening to me.

Is there an explanation?

Or is it that my computer knows I will be replacing it shortly and is trying to screw with me?

has anyone ever reported a website for not being PCI compliant (and gotten anywhere)? I went to sign up for a service that requires credit card payment but stopped when I saw that it was not an https site. they have an entrust SSL seal on the page, but neither IE nor Firefox shows the site as secure.

Current rig:

Corsair 500R
ASRock Z87 Extreme4
Intel i7 4770k
Zalman CNPS9900ALED Cooler
Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD
16 GB DDR3 1600 CL8 Ram
Three 1TB WD Caviar Green HDD
HIS IceQ 7950
Four LG UH12NS30 BD drives
XFX P1-650X-XXB9 650W 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply
Dell U3011 and 2x Dell 2007FP PLP, Samsung 220WM mounted above ( and planning on adding two more 22" 1680x1050 eventually)
Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Just picked up a HIS IceQ X2 7970 3GB on a really good deal, card is almost brand new. Planning on adding it (meaning rig will have both the 7950 and 7970 installed) to current rig, but not sure if PSU is big enough?

I also have a Corsair HX750 in another rig that I repurposed to be a server that I could swap with, but don't want to spend the time and work if not neccessary.

Given the comments here about its power draw (in a stripped back reference system with no second GPU) I suspect your PSU will be too light.

Bear in mind that your HIS card alone will need TWO 8-pin PCI-E connectors.

What do you need that for? Bootlegging?

Can anyone recommended me a 250gb+ SSD, particularly from the Amazon UK site, with sufficient speed and other spec?

It will be running postgres with a large HEM database and 3-4 monitors (not sure if the second bit is even relevant)

Thanks

Number of monitors is unimportant for this. I think most people would agree that Samsung 840's are superb

Assuming you want a 2.5" drive (as opposed to a 1.8")...

Anybody using powerline adapters in their home? I did a quick search of the forum and haven't seen anything too recent posted about them. Setup would be:

-Wireless router plugged into cable modem (which can serve most of the house)
-Powerline adapter plugged into that router
-2nd powerline adapter down in the basement, potentially hooking up a cheap wifi router to it, but might just go wired

The initial research I have done has shown some poor reviews of the wireless models, which is why I would lean towards using wired and then an additional router. TPLink seems to be decently reviewed and cheap. Any thoughts/experience?

I use MOCA adapters, and have found them to be much more reliable than powerline.

I'm using this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to get TIVO from my living room to my TIVO mini in the bedroom and it's working great.

Hmm, thanks for the response. I actually see that slickdeals/newegg has one on sale for 70, which is better than the 100+ prices I was seeing on amazon.

How knowledgeable are you about these? I want to set it up in my mothers house, which is very large and the cable lines are split all over the place in order to reach every room. Would this complicated system drop the quality?

(edit- this is in response to Kato re: MOCA)

I tried to use MOCA first but it wasn't working in my apt. I don't know if it was something that cable company could fix with a truck roll but they couldn't fix it over the phone and I didn't want to deal with waiting for an installer so I went with the power line thing. There is some good info on the difference on one of the TIVO forums.

I have cable split to about 7 rooms and have no issues. You do need to make sure any splitters pass a high enough frequency, as the MOCA signal uses a higher frequency than the Cable TV signal, which is why they can coexist. Also a good idea to put in a filter where the signal comes/goes from the home, to ensure no data leaves your home.

I am hoping someone has a quick solution to my problem. I cannot access certain websites on my laptop from my home network. Two of the sites are a professional organization to which I belong and IN.gov. I did a little research and could not find a solution on my own. I have checked my router for blocked addresses, turned off all firewalls, etc. I have tried to access the sites via IE11 and Google chrome. When my laptop is not on my home network it accesses the sites without problem.

Help?

Has this just started happening? If so, it's probably just an internet routing or dns issue, and will resolve itself given a few hours.
06-28-2014 , 10:46 PM
It's been going on for about 3 months. I don't need to access those sites very often, but enough that it is highly annoying.
06-30-2014 , 04:34 AM
Try changing your dns settings on your laptop - point them to Googles public DNS https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/

Sometimes ISPs dns is next to useless.
07-01-2014 , 11:45 PM
Changing to Google DNS did not help. I guess my next step is to call isp.

can you ping the affected sites? what message do you get when the sites do not load? can you test other devices on your home network?
