Thank you. Will give this a shot and report back after.

Anyone have a good recommendation for a wireless keyboard and mouse?
03-24-2013 , 04:34 PM
This morning I used my computer. Had to go out for awhile so I decided to shut down my computer. Now I can't get it to turn on. The tower lights up and the fans are running, but my keyboard and monitor aren't working.

I don't know why this happened all of a sudden. I have to post this from my phone bc I can't use my computer.

Any ideas?

EDIT: WTF. Had to do a shut down by holding the power button in. That didn't work so I did it again, but this time I held it in to power it on. 5 seconds into it, it shut down again. Then I retried and it worked. Pretty annoying. Any idea why that happened?

It's on a PC. If you tell me exactly what you want and how to find it I'd gladly pm.

Also I googled audio drivers windows 8, dled the newest realtek driver and still nothing after waking up from sleep.

The realtek driver is a CODEC driver. There are two drivers for audio probably. The CODEC driver and the miniport class driver. Go to the device manager and look in the category with the heading that starts with sound.

In device manager under sounds, video and game controllers it has: high definition audio device and realtek high definition audio.

Magnets, how do they work?

I have a tank bag on my motorcycle that uses magnets to hold it to the tank. If I slide all of my apple products in there and the magnets come in contact with them am I going to have problems?

While riding the magnets are a few inches away but I want to just be able to keep everything in the bag and take it with me. When the bag isn't on the bike the magnets will basically be in contact with either my ipad or mbp.

Magnets used to screw up CRT displays and can erase hard drives at least. LCD displays are sensitive to magnetic field changes. Flash storage is silicon based so that should be okay, but conventional hard drives should be away from magnets.

They put magnets in some of these products like the iPad for covers and power cable connections on Mac, so within reason they seem to be okay. With more powerful magnets I wouldn't take any chances though. There are possibly other components that are magnetically shielded very well and you know what a MBP board costs to replace.

Looking to switch to a wireless mouse but it seems there is no wireless equivalent of what I'm using (the uber popular Logitech MX518).

Don't like the MX1000, MX5000, Logitech G7 (close but no back button), but the Logitech G700 looks interesting... why is it so hard to find a wireless mouse with the same awesome ergonomics and button layout of the MX518?

What the heck is wrong with Youtube anymore? It's so hard to get videos to play. It's beyond frustrating.

Anyone have any issues with the videos not wanting to load? I've tried multiple solutions and nothing has worked.

Still having the sleep into no sound issue, but I found out I can plug in then unplug a headset in the front of the PC and that gets the sound working again without having to unplug the speakers.

So weird.

I want to charge several USB devices (phone x2, galaxy tablet, pebble watch) from one electricity socket. Thus, I imagine purchasing some sort of powered USB hub/charging station. I'd prefer one that can send 10w/5v/2a down each socket simultaneously (rather than the default 5w/5v/1a that cheaper ones appear to provide).

Are there any similar devices that people here recommend?

I just got the Evoluent Vertical Mouse but the Middle button is weird. I have it set to "Wheel/Middle Click." When I open my navigation bar and Middle click a URL to open it in a New Tab, it doesn't (it just Middle clicks the background of the page I'm currently on).

Anyone know what's wrong? I have the drivers installed and am running Evoluent Mouse Manager.

You people must hate money.

Multiple times over the last few years I have posted in this forum implying as implicitly as I could that I am willing to offer good $ in exchange for tech help.

I am a millionaire high stakes poker player and there are no doubt many more like me. I can probably offer you a better hourly than your day jobs to ****ing sit on your arse and click some buttons on teamviewer, yet you choose to give away your knowledge for free on the forum instead.

If any of you find an ounce of entrepreneurial spirit inside of you, get in touch.

imo the person for whom it seems you are looking is a difficult one to find. a lot of people have their specialties and may have less than expert level abilities in other things. to be competent enough to sell abilities like it seems you are asking, someone would really need to have dedicated a large part of their life to doing/supporting the things that you do (e.g. I could keep a computer up to date and handle any networking problems, but if HEM stopped working or if you got some bad malware, I'd be coming here to be sure it was fixed 100% properly).

There is also the aspect of the time commitment. If you're blinding out in big $$ tournaments you're probably not going to be happy that the person is at their 9-5 or out getting drunk and therefore unavailable. Then lastly there is the liability. If somehow you lost lots of money due to computer issues, what happens to the person you were paying to prevent that?

It's certainly less convenient than having 1 person that can fix anything, but an entire forum consisting of at least 1 near expert in every CTH topic is pretty good. Perhaps explain in more detail what you would need/want this person to do and maybe it will turn out that it is within someone's capabilities that might not consider themselves an expert in everything that could possibly come up.

hi cth, have a couple quick questions if anyone could please help

i bought this computer:

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/17...pping-1294710/

and added this graphics card:

http://newegg.com/Product/Product.as...82E16814131339

i would like to start using 2 30"s 5120x1600. can/should i buy another one of the same cards and slide it in underneath? no reason 2 of those cards + the recommended AMD driver wouldnt work for 5120x1600 right? not using it for gaming

i also want to add more ram. should i get 8 gb more of the same ram thats already in it (linked below)? im semi-clueless and dont know if 4x 4gb is the best option:

http://newegg.com/Product/Product.as...82E16820231477

what if i wanted more than 16 gb? if someone could link me to a recommended option for 32 gb for this system, i would rly appreciate it.

i dont pay enough attention to stuff like this but i think 24 gb isnt an option due to needing to use 2 of each size ram for good performance or something like that? am i making that up?

tyty

(gonso was super helpful, i just dont want to keep bugging him w/ PMs every time i fail on google)
