Do at least 4GB of ram, especially if using integrated graphics.
12-04-2015 , 09:00 PM
Thought 32-bit could only do somewhere in the 3gb range, is it 4?

Edit

Yup, looks like you're right, 4 it is. So another $15 or so

Little confused on the CPU as well. Is 1333 memory the best it can do, or is 1600 fine?

My chrome has suddenly stopped loading any pages. I open it up and it just sits there at a blank screen until it eventually tells me to wait or kill the page. I didn't do anything differently, it just stopped working the other day. I've been searching for a solution, but haven't come up with anything yet. I can't even get into the settings or open anything in incognito mode. I tried going to Chrome and hitting the download and maybe reinstalling, but that didn't fix it.

My Firefox works fine. Any ideas?

So you've completely uninstalled chrome and all its settings, and reinstalled it fresh and it doesn't work?

May be a bug with the most recent release if true.

I was a little afraid of completely uninstalling because I have a lot of bookmarks that I want to keep.

I spent this morning trying a few different things and eventually got the bright idea of trying to just restart my computer. I normally put it into sleep mode. I'm not sure what was the actual problem, but Chrome works again. It was stupid of me to not try restarting first.

if you are logged into a google account in chrome, it saves your bookmarks across devices and installations fwiw

plugins, too

any clue why all my chrome plugins suddenly need to be able to read and change any data i send or receive? like great suspender, imgur, etc

Question about VMware convertor

Read this article because I'm interested in having one or two old to legacy Windows installs migrated to a new PC and ran as virtual sessions.

Curious if anyone has any experience with something like this. Would be a Windows ME and 7 32-but running virtual on a Windows 10 64-bit install.

Hey guys, dont want to make a separate thread so ill ask here

Is there a free safe program that lets me record mouse movement+clicks+keyboard and save a macro (just like in Excel !) and then play it later.
I have a repetitive task i want to complete that involves clicking, typing, moving.

/Happy new year

Does AHK handle that?

Can any SDD fit into any HDD holder in a desktop computer? Sorry for the ******ed question but I'm not very computer savvy and I'm planing on buying a new desktop, taking out it's HDD and installing the SDD that's currently in my laptop.

Depends on the size. Some cases have space for the smaller SSDs, some need a mount. Suppose it depends on the hdd physical size as well.
01-02-2016 , 04:12 AM
Most laptop HDD's are 2.5" form factor with SATA interface, most SSD's are 2.5" with SATA interface and will fit fine.

There are laptops out there with smaller form factor SSD's (mSATA, m2 form factor, PCIe), but you said it was a laptop with an HDD, should be fine.

----
edit: oops, I misread, get a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter mount for a few dollars. you could even plop it into the case without a mount and put it on some double sided tape because there's no moving parts in an SSD, but a mount is probably best. Hope the SSD isn't a smaller form factor.

Anyone played on pokerstars with a 15.6 inch screen laptop and 1366x768 resolution? The minimum table size is 480x359 apparently so am i correct that you could have two tables vertically with no overlap and 3 laterally with some overlap? I googled for this information but I'm a tech moron and I'm about to make a $400 purchase and want to be certain. Also sorry if this is wrong thread but I don't know what the heck that title means. I assume nc= no content.

old thread bump

For network storage, anyone ever try an external SSD connected via usb to a router?

our current solution, a WD MyCloud, kinda sucks on mac and the app for it is basically useless. Would love something a bit more responsive and without the price premium of a mac time machine or wtf ever they're called (dunno if they work well with windows and linux either).

Unless your router has an USB3 port, this makes no sense. USB2 is a massive bottleneck even for regular HDDs:

USB 2.0 = 60MB/s (theor. max)
WD Black 6TB = ~200MB/s (seq.; avg. bench)

USB 3.0 = 640MB/s (theor. max)

apparently 3.0 can cause signal interference with the 2.4ghz band

=-/

Holy ****... we are always fighting with wireless reception issues and I never even knew this was a thing.

I routinely getting 110MB/s with a non-SSD external HD over USB 3.0. I'm not convinced an SSD is worth it for an external drive unless you have really specific use cases (ie. something not storage related).
06-07-2016 , 08:12 AM
Fast external drives are usually used by video editors who need fast drives for playing huge video files.

not me, i'm just salty that mac and wd don't play well together, even after a much touted firmware upgrade on the wd side

You're surprised that a system that is only designed to work with stuff developed by Mac does not work with stuff not developed by Mac? Welcome to the apparently wonderful Mac ecosystem!
