HALP! I need a laptop. HALP! I need a laptop.

Pretty n00b-ish when it comes to laptops. I'm almost 40 and I've never had one. I don't need anything over the top, I'm not gonna be multi-tabling while running hold 'em manager, poker tracker, flopzilla and poker cruncher all at the same time. I'm just looking for something that runs fast and smoothly with a fair amount of memory that I can use to start putting in some extra study time. Any useful advice is much appreciated.

The same useful advice that everyone asking this question gets: browse or search the forum. Pretty much anyone asking about a new computer has the same requirements, and the answers don't change much nowadays.

You will want something equal to or better than: an i5, 8Gb RAM, 240Gb SSD and probably 1Tb HDD for other storage. And that would work if you were playing poker. For just study you can get away with much less although if you're talking about a big database and data interrogation tools then this is still probably a good idea.

Just for basic use honestly. I don't play online since Black Friday and I don't do any photo/video editing. Mainly would be used for everyday stuff like email, interwebs, streaming Netflix, music, studying. On board memory isn't too critical since we can always get an external hd. Also leaning towards PC vs Mac since flopzilla only runs on PC. Thanks!

so you just need any cheap entry level laptop as your usage requires next to no power.

MacBook Pro 15 is actually a really good, albeit expensive, choice.

It still has one of the best laptop screens in the market.

I wouldn't exactly say I want just any old cheap pos. True, I don't need a machine that over the top powerful or anything, but I do still want one that is going to be quick and able to run some good software like Flopzilla or Pokercruncher for working away from the table.

I could add this comment to virtually every thread here. Is there anything you know about your issue that you haven't told us?

What country you're in? What computer stores are nearby? What's your budget?

etc.

Not quite sure what you mean by "anything you know about your issue you that haven't told us" but I'm in the US close enough to a couple major cities. Prob end up in a Best Buy or something along those lines when I land on a particular machine. New Egg I suppose would be another option too. Budget prob 3-500 ish with 500 right about the top of that range.

If you're not looking to do any gaming whatsoever, you could honestly get away with a $300 laptop. Don't buy HP as they have pretty ****ty lifespans, I'd honestly just go with any Dell laptop but get Intel i3, i5, i7, don't get AMD.
