Serious reasons:

a) he has a weird keyboard, such as an Apple one with different keys

b) he has a weird keyboard, such as one from a different country

c) he wants to convert the Caps Lock into a key that he would actually use (eg, in Chrome OS it's a search button)

Also, a request for two pieces of software:

1) Software to manage the amount of time a player in a sports team (basketball) has been playing on the court, and the time since substitution

2) Software to automatically manage invitations to an event with limited capacity and set priorities. Eg, I have a weekly poker game with 8 seats. 8 people (of my choice) should be invited at a preset time, and then, they will respond as either attending or not-attending. Each time someone confirms their attendance, that should be assigned a spot. Each time someone advises they can't attend, it should invite the next person in the list, until the list is either exhausted or the event is full. This might be a web service... any ideas?

I've only owned Macs in the past but just purchased a PC. I'm wondering what software I need to protect against viruses / spyware / malware. I'm willing to pay if it fully protects me. Can I just buy Norton Anti-Virus and be done with it? Anything else I need?

I only use for poker, email, online banking.

Microsoft Security Essentials. Free and one of the best anti-malware programs.

I've been using Avira by itself for awhile now, do Avira and MSE run together or do they conflict with each other?

is MSE > Avira?

Can somebody please recommend some good AV software that doesn't take up much memory? I have norton right now, but it's just a hog and I'm looking for something smaller for my laptop.

What are considered the best defrag programs out there?

I've used 'MyDefrag' and 'Defraggler' and was wondering if they still rate.

Thanks.

Josem,

I understand SSDs are better than mechanical drives, but at the moment I have a mechanical drive and want to defrag it.

i recently started using superantispyware.

at my old job my boss clicked a link and it dl'ed the open cloud virus. avira, avast, mbam, nothing would work. it would just shut the AV down mid scan

superantispyware, as cheezy as it sounds, was the only thing that got rid of it, and its free

^ I agree! I've been using Avira (after it being recomended in this thread). I just downloaded SuperAntiSpyware and ran a complete scan. It found tons of threats and removed them all. Not sure how many were serious threats, but it found stuff other programs didn't.

no disrespect to SAS at all, but it was very likely just a bunch of cookies, etc.

Avira has been annoying me lately, blocking an autorun file on a USB stick I've been needing to run, and also interfering with Battlefield 3.

Are you sure the autorun is not a virus? I had same situation and it turned out it was a virus when the stick was scanned.

Yes, I am sure the autorun is not a virus. Apparently it blocks all autorun.inf files on USB sticks as far as I can see.
