I'm after the following:

an alternative to Quickbooks accountancy software, I have just found out about gnucash, can anyone recommend this or something else?

Also a vnc viewer, again recommendations welcome. I found ultravnc but the website looks a bit shady so I would appreciate comments etc.

If you are using it for personal use then Teamviewer is awesome. I have been using it for years

Edit: here is some options for you to replace quickbooks http://www.techsupportalert.com/best...#AceMoney-Lite

This looks really useful!

One Q though, how does it handle the browser and searchbar hijacks that seem to be coming more popular, is opt-out the default?

It automatically unselects any add-on type programs, so you are definitely good there.

One thing you should know is that it will always install to the default location (usually /program files/), so if you have current versions already installed you might have to tweak things a bit.

I just set this up on my parents to run weekly with windows scheduler to help keep everything on their computers up to date to avoid viruses. Seems like a great solution for it.

It's definitely a time saver.

Does anybody know any good free ftp programs? I have been using smart ftp for a few yrs. It still works on my pc but wont work on my laptop. It wont open anymore unless I buy it. I am stuck and cannot update my websites when I am away from home without a ftp program for my laptop.

you may want to check out dropbox

xpost:
ok well this isnt rly a website its more of a tool but it helps a lot

Dropbox is a Web-based file hosting service operated by Dropbox, Inc. that uses cloud computing to enable users to store and share files and folders with others across the Internet using file synchronization.

-free service provides 2 GB of free online storage.
-linux windows mac iphone android apps and a webbased client
-encrypted
-The Dropbox client enables users to drop any file into a designated folder that is then synced with Dropbox's Internet service and to any other of the user's computers and devices with the Dropbox client
-shared dropbox: work together with friends

u can use it for syncing handhistory/universtiy stuff/etc on ur laptop/pc
it basiclly saves a lot of time because you dont have to download the same stuff twice,

if you use this link you also get extra free 250mb(i get 500mb, you can refer friends too)

I've been using ADrive for free file hosting and it's a heck of a lot better than Dropbox. 50gb free ftw.

I use ******* Plus. It does exactly what it says it does: blocks ads. 2+2 loads immediately now. Banner ads and all those pain in the ass roll-over ads are gone too. Also, no adsense.

NoScript: Not sure why I have it. I just use it to add another layer of blockage to the ADB.

Read it later. It creates a little arrow on the browser. Click the icon and it saves it in another bookmark folder. Great way to add a little more organization to the bookmarks. I use the main marks for sites I need to track on and this one for stuff I will get to reading or only need temporarily. Read it later is great for people who have research-heavy jobs like I do.

Internet Download Manager: unfortunately, this is not a free tool, though it does have a free trial time of 30 days. If you are planning to download a bunch of stuff in a short time, then this utility makes life a whole lot easier.

Is there any difference between windows defrag and Auslogics?

Meh. Dropbox is easy to use, it's on all my machines, and it's site doesn't look like it was designed by a color blind high school kid in the 90's.
