Did I get scammed by AT&T hacker? Did I get scammed by AT&T hacker?

Not sure if this is the right forum. Best I could find.

I'm here at my parents and their internet is just terrible, so I called AT&T to see what's available to try to get an employee to come out sometime and talk about their service and their offers.
I dialed one AT&T number I found online, but if I recall it didn't work the first time and I was transferred.

Next I spoke to this really annoying guy who could barely hear a word I perfectly said. I gave my address that ends in "80" and he thought I said "ate E." Ridiculous.

Then he does his searches and finds this offer for $108 that includes new cable TV. We set up a time for someone to come out. Before we finished, he needed my dad's social security number since I wasn't making the account under my name. I gave the phone to my dad and we gave it to him, but then he made this claim that we had to agree to buy this package. We couldn't just decide when the server came out to talk to us. I asked him if that was true earlier and he said no, I don't have to agree to a payment right now.

My dad started to want to leave when they demanded we give the info for them to run a credit check. A credit check because we want to learn about their service. Insane. Dad didn't even think this was legal.

We asked to talk to his boss and we got no help. He was just pushy and kept demanding we agree to this purchase. Ridiculous stuff.

My parents say there's a chance with these calls that it was hacked and some scammer was acting like AT&T. Should we file a social security warning thing for us or what?

Got in touch with a tech support guy and he is taking care of it. It was just a bad employee we think.
