Just wondering what specs peoples CPU's have.

Looking at buying a desktop soon with 2x20" monitors.

Needs to be able to run the usual stuff:

OM2
2/3 clients + 5/6 tables
ProPokertools
Internetz etc

Do I need a lot of RAM or what? I have no idea when it comes to computers.

20", I just got a 30" and my 24" looks small now, I have to look twice if the resolution is Full-HD=1920x1080. But 2 equal monitors is nice.

Postgresql wants alot of ram, the more the better. DDR3 is affordable.

An SSD drive let's say around 200 Gigabytes

Intel i5 3570 Processor
Gigabyte sniper M3 Motherboard
Corsair 1600Mhz 8gb DDR3 Vengeance Memory Module Kit
SanDisk Extreme SDSSDX-120G-G25
500W PSU
2x Samsung 23" LED Widescreen Monitors
Logitech Touchpad Keyboard
Fractal Design Define R4 Black Mid Tower

Here it is. Final build. Slightly over budget but it should last a long long time. Can't wait to build this puppy!

Hi guys!

Hope it's okay to 'take over' this thread...

I'm looking to build a new machine.

It's going to be my main workstation replacing my current 5-year-old one.

Here's what I've come up so far:

GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD4H LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Intel Core i5-3570 Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 2500 BX80637i53570

SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD256BW 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

CORSAIR CX600M 600W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

COOLER MASTER Silencio 550 RC-550-KKN1 Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Will be using it for multi-tabling with tracker software for the most part but also want to use it for a bit of sound and video editing.

I'll likely get the suitable memory used from a friend.

Don't really know that much about the topic but managed to create the configuration with a little help.

One is question I have is if I'll be able to use two monitors without a discrete graphics card.

Thanks for your feedback and suggestions to come, I'll likely have more follow-up questions.

Hey no worries man

I bought i5 3570k. It has slightly better integrated graphics and is only a fraction more expensive but from what I understand both these CPU's will be able to run dual screen setup. Not sure whether your video editing will need a separate graphics card though.

Also. If you plan to use wireless check whether the motherboard comes with a PCIe wireless adapter card otherwise you have to buy one separately. I chose Gigabyte M3 Sniper mobo because of this. It is also a mATX which means I can put it in a smaller case. I went with Fractal Design Define Mini

You also need an OS. The number of times I forgot this when factoring in cost is unreal lol. It needs to be OEM version for new builds. If you are not using an optical drive like me you can use USB using UNetbootin and an .iso file. I need to look into this more as I haven't done this without CD before but I have a friend in IT who will likely help and I'll be able to help you if you want once I have done it

Good luck with it. I have ordered and I am waiting on parts to be dispatched. I am very very excited and this has been so much fun so far. Unfortunately my Fractal Design case is delaying things as they are waiting for stock from their supplier. This is what you get when you order award winning Swedish design

Hope this helps

Alright, I did some research and it looks like you're right, the i5 3570k seems to be the better option if I don't plan on adding a graphics card.

It also has the option to over-clock (which I probably won't ever use).

Wrt wireless I have a USB adapter that I use so I can do without the card.

Wrt OS I'll go with Win7 64bit.

Wrt optical drive I'll probably use my current drive or buy a cheap one.

Thanks for your input, bompter.

I'm really hoping to order the components by the end of the week.

Some parts are arriving this week. Another order is delayed because they are waiting for stock from their supplier. Award winning swedish design FTW lol
