Dell Laptop Battery Problems

Hi y'all

I have a Dell laptop that I got used from a friend(so no warranty or anything). It was going fine for a couple months, but the battery eventually crapped out. I got a new battery but it still doesn't work. I bought my new battery from Batteries+, it is the same battery as before, but my Dell laptop says it doesn't recognize the new battery as a Dell battery, and ergo will not charge it. The laptop still works plugged in, but won't charge the battery and thus dies whenever my dog steps on the power strip.

Does anyone know how I can fix my laptop to charge the battery? Or is it just completely donezo no matter what I do?

Thanks everyone,

McG

idk anything about Tech, so any info/specs on the laptop you'll have to tell me where to look, i have no idea what model Dell it is

Re: Dell Laptop Battery Problems

The problem isn't the battery- it's the laptop, just not reading the battery. I'm pretty sure that any Dell battery I put in right now won't work.

Also, if I put this battery into another Dell laptop it charges, unfortunately I don't have a friend or neighbor with the same type of laptop so I can't charge my battery like that daily.

Was just posting here hoping someone had suggestions for cleaning or fixing the battery port on my laptop(since I think that's where the problem stems from...but it could just be the laptop in general), before I decide to just give up on it.

Thanks,

McG

Re: Dell Laptop Battery Problems

search google for "dell plugged in not charging" there are a million threads about it. It's obviously a huge problem. Dell really need to sort this out. This has just happened to my fairly new laptop. I think it's something to do with the motherboard, but I've not sorted mine out yet so I can't give you a solution.
