Considering purchasing this with my Norton Internet Security 2010 subscription.
It states that it will back up all your purchased software for 1 year for $8.99.
I have a external hard drive that I use to backup everything on my computer. Won't that do the same thing?
Or basically is it worth it to do this?

Buying Norton is sort of like setting money on fire. Only when you set money on fire you don't get an invasive beast on your computer.

There are plenty of free Anti-Virus products that are better than Norton. If you really want to pay for one then get ESET NOD32.

To answer your question....no it's not worth it.

I do have a mix of the commonly recommended free programs on one of my computers right now,(commodo firewall/avast av). Worked ok but always liked the usability aspect of having an all-in one. Also 2010 beta version of Norton IS was impressive to me as far as lack of usage of system resources and speed of quick scan.

The latest Norton AV is actually very good. I don't care for all in one security suites of any kind though. This download service does indeed seem unnecessary esp if you already have a backup system in place.
