I'm wanting to use this picture (just the figure, not the words/stars/outline) for some custom poker labels, would someone with the knowhow please turn this jpg into a vector image for me? It'll make my life a whole lot easier.

I really appreciate the help guys.

Are you ok with losing the textured background? And, what format do you want it in?

edit: the textured background ought to be fairly easy to preserve if you want it.

re-edit: duh, you just want the figure

final edit: either way, it's done. PM me to let me know what format you want it in. I'll assume EPS unless you say otherwise. Send me an email address and I'll ship it over to you.

If you are bored today and could give a brief step-by-step as to the process you used I would be grateful. Did you use live trace in illustrator? Or a more manual process? I have been getting more into vectors the past year, and now that FTP is changing their graphics to SVG I will be doing a lot of vector work so any tips/tricks would be helpful. Most of the work I do is creating original vector shapes in my files, but converting JPG to true vectors would be incredibly helpful for making the royal faces on some of my cards, etc.

Hi Fozzy.

Sure. If you're interested here's what I settled on http://************/daox9j

It's slightly more simplified than the original, but probably will work a little better when drastically scaled this way.

To be honest, I'm an Illustrator idiot, and this was pretty much a 3 click process. I did indeed use live trace, but because I don't use AI enough to know how to extract a path out of a livetrace element, I first took the image into Photoshop and ran a curves on it to bring the white point down in order to get rid of the textured bg and make it a purely b&w image. After that, I just painted out the unwanted parts with white and saved it as a png which I then opened up in AI. After selecting the graphic I then just clicked on livetrace, and went back and forth between a couple of presets to find the one that I preferred.

Anything more complicated than this I probably would have failed at, because, like I said, I'm an AI idiot.

Still, I hope this helps in some little way.

Cheers!

Edit: it seems that I can't post tiny you are ells in here, so if you want to download the file, then take my word for it being safe and substitute the **** in the above link with the obvious. Apologies to mods if this violates any rules or anything.

Sounds similar to how I turned this little JPG into a vector last year. I think it was for a 2p2'ers school project.

I saw a mention about inkscape the other day. Thanks for the reminder so I can install it and check it out.
