Re: >clickity-click< (NC thread 0.0.1a)

I was looking at either the 80gb or 120gb...the 120 has write speed up 100MB/s whereas the 80gb is up to 70MB/s

Is this going to be a noticeable difference for poker?

What is the best way to keep your drivers up to date? This is something that I almost never do just because it is a pain to find drivers

Re: >clickity-click< (NC thread 0.0.1a)

Anybody (hopefully more than 1 person, hehe) have brand recommendation for 15" laptop?

Windows brands, it is going to be used for grinding some Rush in between classes, so affordability/weight/reliability are good characteristics.

I have a main desktop to play at home on, so it doesn't have to be amazing, I just want to get a well-respected brand.

Re: >clickity-click< (NC thread 0.0.1a)

I got an HP ENVY 14* recently, very happy with it, but it's not an inexpensive laptop (ENVY is HP's MBP "competitor" brand). I think HP makes pretty good laptops in general. Dell of course sell laptop's and PC's by the ton.

* 1600x900 resolution - resolution could be the feature you are most interested in, esp on 15" laptops.

Is there an Open Source equivalent to DreamWeaver? Or similar (for fairly simple web development).

ETA: can you use Visual Studio to build a basic HTML / CSS site? i.e. without turning it into an ASP.NET beast?

ty, as far as resolution goes I don't want it to be too large so everything is small as heck. I'm playing Rush so I'd prob 2 table

Not sure if it's fancy enough, but Mozilla has the SeaMonkey project that includes an HTML composer.

Lenovo, former IBM has the best laptop keyboards of all imo and the classic IBM-mousestick ain't too bad.
Best case in the pc world (besides some special editions from Asus, HP, Sony). Not necessarily cheap.

http://www.osalt.com/kompozer is a WYSIWG editor, only for web.

As a daily VS2010 user, I wouldn't recommend it as web editor if you don't need it for application development anyways. Besides some highlighting and auto-completing it does not much for html/css.

(Although it formats the source code in a very sexy manner and far superior to any other editor I've ever seen.)

If you use HM you have to disable or uninstall the Stardock My Colors theme that comes installed by default. Our HUD will not work with that theme software enabled.

It didn't have too much bloatware installed, but I removed Stardock and the other desktop organiser app pretty much immediately - but thx!

There are always deals available, so keep an eye out. I got $500 off my ENVY.

Not for drivers per se, but to update every day apps (flash, web browsers, java, etc.) I highly recommend this. It scans your computer for updates and has been the absolute nuts since I started using it:

http://www.filehippo.com/updatechecker/

For security updates, patches, and vulnerability fixes I use Secunia. Great program to keep everything up to date:

http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/

Both programs are free. Again, use these to update software. For hardware drivers the only thing you can really do is go to the manufacturer's website and check the version number to see if a newer driver has been released.

Re: >clickity-click< (NC thread 0.0.1a)

I would suggest to take distance from Secunia.
The company has a very shady history of magically disappearing vulnerabilities (paid to prevent negative publicity ... go Adobe!), kinda blackmailing software vendors (not proven) and using absurd test methodologies to have the outcome of a "independent" test the way they want it.

There's nothing wrong with their tech department tho. They seem to be on top of the industry when it comes to vulnerabilities and all the blackmailing/bribing incidents happened 2-3 years ago.

You decide.

Kinda curious about this now. Makes me wonder if I need to change.

I googled around and couldn't really find anything negative. Do you have a source you can link?
