Re: >clickity-click< (NC thread 0.0.1a)

Not so much games, but you notice it when you're using a heavy Adobe program and applying some complex filter to render a large image. Some of those tasks can take a while and I can definitely see a difference. Really any task like ripping a CD or rendering video where you have to wait on it, you'll notice better performance.

With the newer Intel chips, you're only really overclocking the upper end. It will throttle back and forth according to the demands on it. So it's more like having an extra fast gear when your need processing power the most. For the cost of a fan and a few dollars for a suitable chip it's just a nice extra. 30% faster is 30% faster.

When talking about lower end like Phenom 2 black chips, it's more important since they're getting kind of dated now and the overclocking increase is significant.

Takes about half the time to open a Word doc on the new MBP than on my work machine. Sweet!

Re: >clickity-click< (NC thread 0.0.1a)

I have a heap of MP3 files. Some are quite high quality... but I want to copy a heap of music to my phone to listen to when I'm out and about, where audio quality is not an issue.

Any recommendations for free software that will batch downgrade the bitrate of MP3s? Ideally, it'd use VBR 'cause that seems like a good idea to me.

I found WinFF, but that seems only to do continuous bitrate and not VBR... i guess that will suffice

Looks like Thunderbird is getting axed? what are ppl using instead?
[edit]I'm sort of wrong , they'll just stop developing new features. I like that actually ; just give me security updates, you can keep your new "features"...

yes, right click "all music" in your library and you could convert it all, you can also change the output folder, file naming convention and post process (eg replaygain) at the same time if you want.

I wore my Hawks socks to work today Josem, not because of your avatar, but still a weird coincidence.

Well, you have had that icon since before I visited Melbourne and got the socks. And until watching footy on TV and touring the MCG I never knew what it was. Perhaps a slowly developing coincident but still...
