they do have 16 gb dimms. generally for large server setups. I know Samsung, hp and intel have made some. Not cheap though. After consulting with The Google, it seems cheap/ used ones are in the $400 range. Some places like amazon have them listed for $800.

There's probably a better way to get 16gb, get a bigger board with more slots or something.

Man, is it just me or has RAM recently come down a ton? I have been seeing all sorts of deals for like 8GB (2x4) for $30! That seems insane. And 1600 RAM as well, not the cheap stuff.

Also, with RAM getting so cheap, anyone tried creating a RAM disk?

Yeah it is crazy cheap. I haven't tried creating a RAM disk, really would just get an SSD which have come down in price too (not super cheap though). But I have upgraded to 4GB sticks on my machines, which feels really nice performance wise.

You can meet the RAM needs of two standard modern computers for $30 now, or just stuff all 8GB into one machine and forget about wanting more for the lifespan of the computer. That's just unreal.

Re: >clickity-click< (NC thread 0.0.1a)

I've received a lot of greatdvicce inkks. I have a new computer with an SSD. I have Windows 7 on there and HEM and a few other factory installed things that had to come along when I made the recovery disk to reinstall windows.( I did get a few of them off).

I'm using the SSD for Windows 7 and HEM2. This is a poker computer. Is there any problem with and should I be putting the poker clients that I use often on there? I have the space? I've been reading about writing versus reading with SSDs and I was wondering if the fact that there are frequent updates to the clients being written to a hard drive would negatively affect the SSD?

Would you want Antivirus, Firewalls and Java RE to be on there?

I wouldn't worry about the SSD wearing out. You'd have to seriously crank on it 24/7 for it to matter. It'll last you a couple years at least, then should be no problem to replace later.

I've already had two failed SSDs that I've had to RMA. Not exactly happy with them.

Re: >clickity-click< (NC thread 0.0.1a)

I've pretty much written off OCZ and Kingston's v-series at this point. I've got two SSDs and I'm very glad I went Intel and Crucial and avoided the SF2 stuff.

The Intel is priced out of reason now but M4 is still around and going strong fwiw
