I finally found the reason to upgrade from LGA 775 to LGA 1155 stuff: A capacitor blew on my old motherboard and took out two sticks of RAM with it. Buying LGA 775 board and RAM didn't make sense when I could buy an i5 2500k, 2x4 GB DDR3 RAM, and a Z68A board for almost the same price after selling my spare Q6600 and E8500 procs and 2x1 GB DDR2 RAM sticks.
Installing my Corsair self-contained water cooler CPU unit, the H50, which is really neat. I have no desire to do a full kit and I got it for $40 on Craigslist.
Now I have a (crappy) SSD, decent proc/motherboard, and a good amount of RAM. Now for the part I like the least: Actually building the system
ETA: Oh yeah, I bought like 6 fans from a Craigslist buyer for $20, but I only have two 3-pin connectors on the board, one of which is used for my water pump. Gotta pick up some Molex-to-3pin converters/splitters, I guess.
