I am new to programming and creating a game in java. I created server and client programs and had it working. But now I am in a new location and I cannot connect to my server unless I connect locally. I have forwarded the port and I can see it is open by going to canyouseeme.org.
I am wondering if the problem is the router I am using here. I tried turning off the firewall on my router but it didn't help.

I got someone to connect. I can only connect to my server locally though. If I try to connect through my external IP address it won't work, even though it works for others. However, when I was working from my other place I could connect to the server. I think this router is the problem. Anyone have an idea?
I assume that when you moved locations you also changed ip addresses?
You can have problems connecting from your own external ip address to your own external ip address. A router by default doesn't forward traffic from its own interface A to its own interface A.
I would expect your router was configured to allow traffic from and to your old IP address, not your new one. If you know your old IP address, you can look through the router config and just change the old address to the new address.
