Cable vs DSL

Just started considering moving form Cox cable to century link as part of a bundling package and just wonder what i can expect differently in connectivity. I do not game or play poker online.

Been running JackDinns auto speed tester for about a week and the average DL is 24.5 Mb/s and average UP is 0.347 Mb/s pinging about 156 with 0 packet loss

Re: Cable vs DSL

I doubt you'll get that with DSL. A lot will depend on how close you are to the CO.

Re: Cable vs DSL

I've used both over the years and switched back to cable last year. Mostly due to local provider was going to put in a usage cap and start charging for overages. I do get a better upload speed via cable (around 1.4-1.5 Mb/s). Like kerowo mentioned DSL does depend more on location in relation to the provider.

Re: Cable vs DSL

DSL is slower and depends on the quality of the telephone line connection outside and inside your house. (Of course cable does as well, but a lot of telephone wiring is older). It should be fine for web surfing unless something is really messed up.

I noticed several centurylink trucks parked down the street for several days with workers putting in a new terminal so i stopped to ask what it was about.
The were just finishing having run fiber from the CO to this terminal.
They calim the fiber is capable of 40 Mbs, of course that is if you pay for it.
Right now CL offer 12 Mbs of speed for 19.99. I presume that having fiber to within 100 yards of my house could be nothing but beneficial?

Re: Cable vs DSL

If you can get fiber optic to your house it's pretty awesome, we had FIOS a while back and loved it. If it's DSL then yes it'll be much better because the thing about DSL is the further you are from the central office the worse your performance -- if there's a terminal right on your block you should get some nice speed. But your interior phone wiring still needs to be halfway decent of course.
