Building a new desktop

Hello, I'm going to buy a new desktop as my laptop is lagging to much with HEM2. I'll use the desktop mostly for playing poker. It has to run smoothly with HEM2 + pokerclients etc. I don't really have a fixed budget, though I don't want to spend extra money on stuff I don't need. Most off the setup I have selected is ok I think, although I'm not sure about the graphics card. I use 2 1920x1200 screens at the moment. Offcourse feel free to comment on the other parts of the setup where I can save some money whitout losing performance :-)

CPU: i5 3570K: €219
Mainboard: Asus P8Z77 - V LE: €141
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB CL9 1600: €50
PSU: Nexus NX-6000 R3 600W: €75
Hard Disk: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB: €115
SSD: OCZ Vertex 4 128GB: €138
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 7770 OC: €135
Case: Cooler Master CM 690 II Advanced: €84
CPU Cooler: Gelid Tranquillo Rev.2: €29

There were problems with the Vertex 3, but the firmware of the sandforce controller has updated for the Vertex 4 so all problems should be solved. Although its possible i'll take the Crucial m4 anyway...

Re: Building a new desktop

The Vertex 4 runs on the Indilinx Everest 2 controller, not Sandforce 2 (OCZ bought Indilinx). Looking around there's still a fair amount of negative feedback on these drives, not just NewEgg but on Amazon. I don't even bother with them anymore. Right now I don't see the Crucial M4 something I'd buy in the US at least, not with generally better drives like the Samsung 830 on sale all the time.

If you want an actual Sandforce 2 that works, you might save some money picking up the SanDisk Extreme. At least here in the US it's crazy cheap all the time, I picked a 240GB version up for $160 where the typical prices for that capacity here are anywhere from $180-$280 for the better model SSDs. SF2 concerned me a bit but the reviews are fairly spotless on it. It's got to be less risky than anything made by OCZ. I had been in the market for a Samsung 830, but I liked the performance of the SanDisk and the silly price so I took a shot. So far, so good. I have no idea what's available to you in Euroland.

I don't have any direct familiarity with the Nexus PSU or CPU cooler you picked, but they seem fairly well reviewed. Everything else seems solid.

I'd make sure you have some thermal compound handy, or that the CPU cooler comes with some (the 212-Plus cooler does, if it's a close decision for you).

The graphics card there is okay if you're looking to do a little gaming on those two displays, otherwise you can skip it. That motherboard has DVI, VGA, HDMI & DisplayPort so you should have no issues getting both of those monitors working right off of the integrated graphics. Definitely enough for poker.

The RAM is okay, but the high heatspreaders might conflict a bit with the CPU cooler is you attach a fan to the right side. A common workaround is to mount the fan a little higher, but then again you can find lots of RAM at those specs without the huge heatspreaders.

But on paper everything looks fine and it will handle poker/HEM type as well as anything else you could buy. You could scale back a bit but if it fits your budget and you want to overclock, I'd leave it as is.
