Bovada 10/20NL - Is my computer secure? Have I been hacked? Bovada 10/20NL - Is my computer secure? Have I been hacked?

Serious question...A friend is bankrolling me on Bovada for 5/10NL, 10/20NL, 5/10PLO, 10/20PLO. Since I started playing, I've seen a lot of very strange behavior.

For instance, getting called down by J2 on a 10K4-7-2 board when I triple barrelled in position vs a 110bb stack in the BB with a 100% fold to CBet after 140 hands...Having an extremely tight image at a certain table, then getting snapped off everytime I bluff by A-high types of hands...Being min-raised on the river multiple times after I've repped huge hands, yet getting zero action when I have a monster and play it exactly the same way. Sometimes it really "feels" like they can see my cards. It's gotten kind of spooky.

Don't get me wrong - I get that this is supposed to happen sometimes, but the frequency has been astounding. I would just chalk it up to really good, or really bad play on my opponents' part, but the sheer volume of occurences has me questioning what is going on. I've played literally millions of hands online. I know what running below EV for tens of thousands of hands looks and feels like. This seems different. I plan on uploading some HH's later when I dig them out of HM2 after I use the hand converter software. Not that such a small sample size would prove much.

Also, since I started playing on Bovada again a few weeks ago, my gmail has been hacked twice. Both times the person sent emails to bovada support. I don't know what they asked though...

I'm running malwarebytes and windows defender. I just started using a VPN service.

Is it possible that my computer has become compromised and someone is spying on my play?

It's been so strange that I actually ordered a brand new computer today and plan to use it solely for Bovada (No torrent downloading, no going to potentially sketchy websites, etc.). I plan on loading it up with virus and malware protection.

Other possibilities I'm considering - Is Holdem Indicator and Bovada Card Catcher safe and reputable? I just want to explore all options.

I've checked this thread: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/48...puter+security but it seems to be a bit out of date.

Has anyone else experienced something similar on Bovada? Am I just being a paranoid idiot?

I know that most will call me a rigtard and move on. However, if I could get a few helpful responses, that would be really appreciated.

TL;DR - Weird things have been happening on Bovada, could someone be watching my holecards due to an insecure computer or internet connection?

If it is in your head that much just wait for your new computer before you play there again.

Also, HI is not your problem fwiw. Tons of players have been safely using it without issue for years.

Good luck.

The only weird thing is that someone logged into your gmail and emailed bovada support.

Still I doubt there is anything that someone could send that would convince bovada to do anything to compromise your account, even inadvertently.

As far as people playing hilariously bad, standard. Also, and i'm saying this without insinuating anything (as much as I can do one without the other) but most of the time these threads come up (and they come up a lot) the person is either

exaggerating a good deal
not as good as they think
are influenced by a small, albeit very strange sample.

Source- I've logged a lot of hands at bovada 1k and i've seen a lot of crazy stuff

I don't know, but this would have me very concerned:

And you don't mention what you did as a result - hopefully you'd have taken some steps to secure things.

Having discovered that forum, I'm kind of surprised you'd come back and post the question in this one. I think you should be asking these questions there, where the experts are.

I changed my password as soon as I found out, both times. The password is, and was, a random word with numbers and capitals. It's not easily guessable at all.

Good point about posting this in the wrong place! I found that thread via a search and thought it originated in this subforum. I apologize. Is there a way for me to move the thread to a different forum? I lurk here a lot, but don't post often.

Keylogged? Talk to anyone on skype regarding poker lately and click any suspicious links?

When you say 10/20 I assume you mean $2,000 buyin, not 10NL or 20NL.

Have you tried contacting Bovada about the emails?

Any idea where they're logging in from (gmail)? You can check here.

I'm no computer security expert, but I'm sort of thinking that after the second time (and probably the first), something a little more than a password change was in order.

No worries; I just want you to get the best answers you can. I didn't move it at first because they might prefer this go in an existing thread, but I've decided we might as well move it over and the mods can always merge or lock this thread and point you in the right direction if this isn't the best way to go.

The only thing I did other than changing my password, was sign up for a VPN and run some malware/virus checks (Which turned up nothing).

I'm going to email bovada and ask them to send me the email they received. Maybe there is some information in there that will help.

I checked the link that Banned4lyfe pointed me to. There are no login attempts listed there that look strange. I'm positive my gmail was hacked though, as I got numerous other emails from contacts that said they received spam from my email address right after I had the notification email from bovada that I had contacted support.

Did you install anything strange lately? Did any friend send you an .exe or anything suspicious over skype or similar prior to this happening?
If I were you, I'd switch all my passwords on a different computer and not log on this one until it is secure again. I could say that you were being paranoid if you didn't have had those issues with gmail. Someone either has keylogged you (but that wouldn't allow them to see your cards) or they have a backdoor to your computer.
Again, this isn't 100%. But I would secure this pc before ever using it again.
Btw, a VPN won't matter here. The traffic still has come and go to/from your computer.

Thanks MarcoSilva92. What is the best way to go about securing my computer? Would a format of the C: drive, fresh Windows 8 installation, Malwarebytes, and a good antivirus program suffice?

I don't use skype, and I don't run executables that I didn't purposely download. However, I do have "Splashtop" installed, which is gives me remote access to the computer. Could someone be using that covertly?

I don't want to get bashed by Gabe here, but ya. I'd fully format the partitions, reinstall everything fresh, get the antivirus running before downloading anything else. Change all your passwords in the meantime on another machine.

I do not know Splashtop, but if someone got your details, it's a possibility.

Btw, 'public' VPNs aren't the best thing to use on poker. The rooms might not appreciate shared IPs, incase the IP you get is shared between clients.

I'm going to format now and start from scratch. I'm also going to change my passwords from another computer that I believe is secure.

I'm using https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/. Is that considered a "public" vpn? Will I be sharing an IP address with other random people that also paid for the service?

Thanks again.

No idea, it's not specific on their website, not that I saw anyway. You can always contact the support and ask them.

None of that will help you (as much as you'd like) if your Gmail is getting hacked regularly.

Have you set up 2 step verification? If not, that should be your absolute priority.

How can your gmail behacked regularly? Is it hackable when you use a 100+ bit password?

Anyway, if that is the case, simply create a new e-mail address that nobody knows about and link it to your poker account.
