Best performance laptop available (MBP, Sony, Samsung, HP, Dell)?

I need a new laptop and not sure which direction to go. A few weeks ago, I was looking at the Dell XPS 15z for $1,599 (Intel Core i7-2640m 2.8 GHz, 15.6 HD Screen, 256 SSD). I took the advice of people in this forum to wait for the new Ivy Bridge Intel processors to come out.

Now that they are out, there are more options to choose from. Apple's MBP with retina looks NICE. Sony Series S look great. Samsung Series 9 has options. HP has the Envy. Dell has a few as well.

The specific ones, I'm looking at:
MBP with Retina ($2,199)
Sony S Series
Samsung Series 7
HP Envy 15
Dell XPS 15

I'm looking for a 15 inch laptop that is somewhat thin and somewhat lightweight. Sleek cool appearence would be cool (one of the reasons I'm looking at the MBP).

I'm willing to spend up to the amount of the Apple MBP with retina ($2,199) and just want the best option. If you were in the market for a new laptop now, which one would you go for?

You're going to need to elaborate or your usage needs somewhat more than "thin/light/sleek." For my part I'd say the MBP is the best equipped of the bunch if the prices were equal, but some of the software I use isn't happening on a Mac + there are lots of extra costs there. I'd also prefer to avoid the graphics card and some other things.

If you have specific questions about the specs between a couple models then post them.

I have an XPS 14Z and really like it. For work I have a 2009 model 15" MBP. Its still fast even with just a 2.9ghz C2D but its got 8gb ram and a 256gb SSD.

Sounds like you've got some good ones picked out there but depending on your plans which might be best for your needs.

My needs are pretty standard. No special programs or other software requirements. Surfing the net, email, some Photoshop, maybe some light video editing, and some poker.

Any of those mentioned should handle that easily. The Mac's are more expensive up front but do seem to hold value well and last a while. On the downside they may not have as many options as others. Have you gone to look at any of these in person at a local apple store, best buy, etc? Even if you don't buy from there it might help with your decision getting to put your hands on it and see if there are any quirks to each model that you like or dislike
