Palindrome Oddity? Palindrome Oddity?

I recently saw a post by the numberphile guy that said any positive integer can be expressed as the sum of three palindromes. No math major here, but I wondered why this might be, then I realized he was using single digit "palindromes" 0-9 in the equations. I don't know why the claim seemed remarkable at first, and I don't know why this 0-9 took the mystery out of it. But long interested in palindromes, words and numbers, having them all over my birth certificate (including uncannily the delivery doctor's first and last names) ... I took special notice. This 0-9 option probably takes it from an oddity to no-brainer automatic.

This is one of those beauties where the proof is more interesting then the outcome.

Palindromes all over your birth certificate means nothing.

Great comment. What it means is, having been interested in them over my lifetime, when I ordered my birth certificate age 50 it was kind of cool to see them so featured on there ... so it was noteworthy, and was the reason I found the article interesting in the first place. So, yes, it's quite relevant. And a delivering doctor whose first and last names as signed on the certificate are both palindromes is a long, long, long shot. Something else it means is that it riled up your vicious little insecurities for some reason.

OP is false if integers are written in base 4.

Sums are not set as a test on Erasmus.

Now I'm genuinely curious as to the name of your delivery doctor.

I'll take a guess... was it Bob Naman?

50% correcto. And it gets much better. But play along for a minute. Imagine claiming this fascination for years, for palindromes literary and numerical, and then seeing at age 50-something that a double palindrome-named doctor delivered you. What is that? I call it symbolism, teleology, synchronicity, intelligent/mystical universe. Man I should try to find out his middle name!! That would be quite a clincher.
