Not much science, but very pretty. Click 'Take the Tour' for the best beginning.

Am i missing something? It seems they dont realise that all numbers are real numbers.
1 = 1.00000000000....
So the whole premise of there beeing different types of numbers is false.

You need to take a math class, bro. Some numbers are real like you and me. Some are imaginary like dragons. Some are irrational like women. Some are whole like milk. Some are natural like gays. Some are rational like sherlock. Some are transcendental like woowoo. Some are surreal like wowwow. Some are prime like 18 year-old poon. I could go on, but you get the point. Lots of types of numbers and many are unreal.

I know this. My point is that reality is what it is regardless of how we diffrentiate it. There beeing different type of numbers is just a human convention and as such it does not in any way describe reality. Therefore there can not be different types of infinities.

But i would be interested to hear an argument against the above.

I do not quite get your point. What is it that you do not agree with? Different sizes of infinities? It's proven in the video. Of course this all springs from the ZFC-axioms, so if you do not agree with the conclusions made in the video you should take it up with Zermelo and Fraenkel.

Btw. infinity is a difficult concept that has occupied many a philosopher and mathematician through the ages. It is up for discussion whether or not there is such a thing as a "true" infinity in the real and practical sense. But in set theory it is a clearly defined concept and here (at least) there actually are different sizes of infinities.

I was just fooling around, I think I get what you're saying. How can one infinity be bigger than another, when infinity is... the biggest possible thing ever. I agree, and I think the guy in the video either knows this and is just fooling around or is confused into thinking infinity can be digital when it's analog.

Of course, it's more likely we're confused and he's just talking about ways to treat infinity when dealing with it in math, not as a philosophical concept. In that regard I suppose there can be different "sizes" of infinity.

Re: SMP Video Collection

What i mean is that the concept of different type of numbers is false. It might be useful when doing math but it has nothing to do with reality. Therfore his conclusion is also false.

Or am i wrong? If so why?

Everyone - This is a STICKY Video Thread. Video links and simple comments is the limit.

If you wish to discuss math/infinities etc please start a thread in the regular forum. Thank You. Any more posts about this will be deleted.
