A lecture by Nassim Taleb, the author of The Black Swan and Fooled by Randomness. On the topics of randomness, unseen evidence, philosophy, prediction. You'll love it, trust me.

Hubble Deep Field: The Most Important Image Ever Taken

A video that demonstrates, in laymen's terms, how big the universe really is.

i just opened this thread for the first time and recall the story of the first time in 1995 when the HT looked at that blank region of space for 10days. it was a famous astronomer who took his allocated hubble time and decided to use all 10 days of it for a 'useless' endeavor. he was mocked of course ... except until the image came back.

now the announcer says the 2003 version is "the most important image humanity has ever taken"...pretty big swing in sentiment there.
