Can anyone help me? I'm having trouble expressing a thought, but I feel I can't be the first person to have this thought, and I suspect there are some useful words someone can teach me.
So I'm writing an essay on learning and memory. I have found an "external" definition of memory: which is "behavioural change resulting from experience". This definition is fine, but it is only one side of the coin: memory can also be defined in terms of physiological changes in the brain, which I would consider the "internal" definition.
My question boils down to: is there a better terminology for this than "internal" and "external"? Does anyone know of a conceptual framework that could help me better understand the relationship between these perspectives?
Thanks!

Psychological and physiological?
Memory can also be defined from a chemical (as in chemistry) perspective I think.
