I'm wondering what theists think of Roy Masters. Is he "No True Christian" or do you think he has this wonderful ability to hypnotize and exorcise? Do you, as a Christian, call bullsh*t when you see videos such as:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nuZF_yaDh4

He is the founder of Foundation For Human Understanding. He has a national AM radio show that has a fairly large following. I was listening to it the other night and it put me on life tilt. He was talking about anger and its relation to cancer. He went on to claim that Tony Snow died of cancer brought on by bottled up anger and rage.

Is Roy Masters good for Christianity? Are his followers true Christians or just lost?

This alone should tell you he's a quack. Snow was the real Christian of the two:

What about exorcisms? Do you think that some Christians alive today can perform such things or was this ability only exclusive to Jesus and a chosen few (disciples)? All other accounts of exorcisms are completely false?

The TRUTH ABOUT ROY MASTERS he is a kook; a deciever, an idiot that has had his followers lose everything to him.

Do you have a brain? Do you believe everything you read or do you find things out independently on your own? I am a 'follower' of Roy Masters and I haven't lost a thing to him 'cept my former evil liberal ways, how is that a problem to you?

You dredge up these articles of half-truths from over 25-30 years ago when the Marxist left and the Christian right combined to use the same tactics trying to smear him as a cult. It didn't work, he's only gotten bigger and stronger.

Roy Masters doesn't operate some secret compound hidden away in Oregon where he brainwashes his followers to give up all their assets to them as he sexually abuses all of them. He doesn't even have a church that one can belong to.

On the contrary he is as open about his beliefs as he can be having put them in 15 books, in addition having broadcast his beliefs to the nation and now to the world for 48 years and now on over 100 radio stations and XM along with the internet.

In addition he helped establish Talkradionetwork which now employs such notables as Michael Savage, Laura Ingraham, Tammy Bruce, Rusty Humphries, Jerry Doyle, Phil Hendrie, Monica Crowley and others, are they all part of this Masters cult too?

He also makes available all his seminars for purchase and now opens his door to a live audience every Sunday morning, and broadcasts the proceedings online for all the world to see and participate, so with all this openness possible now due to talkradio and the internet, ANYONE can easily make their own judgments about Roy Masters and no longer have to depend on the biases of the Marxist media or right wing fundamentalist fringe groups like this Watchmen organization like they did 30 years ago.

Roy Masters is a great American patriot who migrated to this country because of the strong values its people used to subscribe too, he has attempted to assimilate and live the American dream and try to help this country maintain and return to the creed that made it the greatest country that ever existed. I am blessed to have known of him and I merely wish to give my fellow Freepers the opportunity to also get to know him, you are free to disagree with him all you want but please be fair and get your facts straight before you do.

Here is one excerpt:
He may or may not do some good - many non-Christians do good in society. I looked at his website and didn't find one word of the Gospel, or the purpose of Christ's incarnation. He appears to be a combination of self-helpers like Van Peale and Ziglar with a magic show like tent evangelists. He may or may not be a Christian. But I don't find anywhere that he teaches or preaches Biblical truth.

Heh... he attracts a huge following under the premise that he is a Christian minister.... of course you can argue whether he is a true Christian but other Christians don't seem to question him. Are they wrong to follow him? What makes you think he is not a valid Christian person?

It may be a stretch, but it seems you are judging the authenticity of a Christian based on how logical they are. Are you more logical in your beliefs and that makes you a better Christian in comparison?

Where does he teach the gospel?

Admittedly his take on Christianity is rather skewed. He does believe in Christ and claims that the "New Testament was written in him (Masters)". I do not doubt that he is a whack job.

http://video.aol.com/video-detail/ro...sus/1743885315

Notice he refers to Christianity as "your Christian religion" when talking to the woman. At any rate he acknowledges Christ and salvation and his talk show is mired in God speak.

His theme is more of a psychological self help type but it is still based in Christianity. What amazes me is that he is on 183 am stations nightly and his followers mostly religious I assume. So again... Are his followers Christians or just some seriously gullible types? Also exorcisms... do you believe that exorcisms are real in any way today?

I can't judge who is or isn't a Christian. I can judge someone's teaching by what I think the Bible says. I don't see his ministry as Bible based.

I believe that God created spiritual beings called angels. Some of them sinned and were banished from His presence. They are what are called demons in the Bible. They have some influence on earth, but to what extent and how isn't detailed. Christians should not focus on Satan or demons - we fight them through becoming well grounded in God's word, prayer and following God's will.

I don't know of any Biblical examples of exorcism that are like popular depictions, such as the movie, or a few scenes I've watched from Masters. The only encounters in the Bible were when Jesus was in His ministry(and I think a few shortly thereafter by some of the apostles), and mainstream theologians believe the greater activity was specifically because of Him. If possession does still occur the remedy is the same as in the New Testament - through prayer and commanding the demon to leave in Christ's name. I expect there are still instances, but only rarely. False cases are sure to be many times more than genuine. Demons and possession are not a major focus of Scripture and so I don't think about it much. Ministries that do are almost certainly going down the wrong path.
