Cool, haven't the slightest idea about any of them.

Edit to say: why am I getting a Sunny Day Real Estate vibe from the bottom pic? Lol, could be entirely offbase, but like I said, I have no idea about any of these three. Once I have another beer and get sick of my current two song-playlist of Fitz And The Tantrums' "Out of My League" and Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive" I'll venture into the realm of the unfamiliar

Have been busy traveling and not even following major news that doesn't affect me.

Lou Reed.

Inevitable that he would exit stage left but still very (:......

20 years ago today, just 9 days after being awarded a gold record for his hit Hey Jealousy, Doug Hopkins, founder of the Gin Blossoms, put a .38 caliber pistol in his mouth and ended his life at the age of 32. It was his 7th attempt at suicide which culminated 10 years of alcoholism and depression.

I wish I could post better versions of the songs he wrote and played on with his distinctive sounding Les Paul, but the later polished versions aren't available online. So here are a couple unpolished versions of nearly forgotten songs off of an obscure album by an underrated band before they were even signed by a major label.

I saw Gin Blossoms in maybe 2005 (at Lafayette Square, BFLO)...obviously by then Doug was but an afterthought, not to be mentioned

It is ridiculously good.

Uninterestingly, I got into a fist-fight long ago with the quarterback at Carnegie Mellon University because of an argument over whether this guy :

was gay (his favorite band, and he was being mean at gay people so I had sufficient justification*). I feel like I am an anachronism now. Fighting the good fight with words** just doesn't have nearly the same satisfactory crunch to it. I'm afraid that I'm:

Song brings tears to my eyes.
