Re: Interest in a 'The Road to Reality' study group.

This projects sounds so exciting - I wish I had time to participate. I assume you're gonna be running your discussions via Skype, but if you wouldnt mind it would be nice with the occasional update here as well.

I doubt I'll be able to keep up but I'd like to try. My copy of the book came in yesterday.

Re: Interest in a 'The Road to Reality' study group.

I've had this book for several years, and have always wanted to work through it. But there's a ton of material and getting through it with any real level of comprehension, I think, would require reading several other books.

Anyway, doubt I'll be able to commit to any kind of set study group schedule.

It would be pretty sweet, though, if anybody is able to put up a website/blog/forum following this. (I guess it could all be contained in a 2p2 thread, but I think a dedicated website would work much better).

This seems like a really good idea. Will try and get something up and running before we start.

In the meantime I suspect that a lot of the learning early on will come from other sources. The book serves in no small part as a guide as to what needs to be known so I think you can probably follow along okay until you get your hands on a copy.

Re: Interest in a 'The Road to Reality' study group.

*****TO EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO BE INVOLVED****

1. Brainstorm below any ideas of how to run this thing. At the moment I am thinking read X chapters each week. Email links to useful resources to some central source (probs me) to display on the thread (or blog). And weekly skype/google+hangouts/other conference chat software.

2.Brainstorm any troubleshooting ideas for obvious likely problems; for example I imagine we will have to deal with schedule conflicts and time zones (I live in the UK and I suspect a good chunk of you lot are of the American persuasion; to confirm attempt to spell the word 'centre' correctly).

3. If you haven't already can you make your maths and physics backgrounds known and maybe put in a few words of what you want to get out of this.

4. I think we will be starting this coming Friday (the 8th). I will be reading as far into the book as my schedule allows to get a sense of what sort of pace to set and will set the first batch of readings then.

This website might be worth a look: http://www.roadtoreality.info

Personally I think my background in mathematics/physics is too narrow to join this study group. But because I have a general interest in what's going on in the universe I will probably follow the project from the side.

I have been reading this book for a while, and it is an amazing book btw. I'm glad more people are wanting to read it.

Not sure how many of you have made it to the site. From page counts it seems likely most of you. If you could drop a comment either here or there to confirm it would be handy I don't want to start this up and leave people behind by accident.

Also, we need to sort out some time for live chatting if this is going to work. I am a recently graduated student so I have all the time in the world but the AM on GMT+1 is best.
