Search function wasnt working on my mobile so not sure if there is already a thread. If there is let me know.

Excited about the idea. It may work or not or may be too expensive to implement. However I cant see any problems Elon trying it out with other companies. Here's why
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperloop

• no tax payers money used for testing the idea
• if it fails many may say they knew it would fail but it is not same as trying it out and demonstrating why.
• company employs a lot of people and benefits the economy
• Sometimes the idea may not work but new inventions are created as a side product

if it works I can see benefits in long run (some may require travelling costs been brought down)

For example
• able to live further away meaning cheaper housing
• Transporting goods

anyone else feeling optimistic about it ?

Actually dont like the idea at all because it wastes enormous california tax dollars building it and its utility to people and safety are completely unproven.

I am all for it for the same reasons. California weather (well, SoCal) weather needs to be offset by such things for the world to be a just place.

Hyper expensive tunnel, suggested by a hyperclown, proposed to be built in one of the world's most hyperactive fault zones. What could possibly go wrong? Seems like a brilliant idea to me. A hyperidea, if you will, from the world's greatest hype merchant.

Pneumatic tubes for transport are a very old idea. They're not viable in terms of cost. Perhaps some new engineering can make it so, but it seems unlikely at this stage.

Watch Thunderf00t 's youtube channel. He explained very well why hyperloop sucks.

Thanks. Will have a look.

im not for using public money for it but quite eager to see how it works out. May fail but sooner or later someone would try it out anyway.

If now someone would present me an idea of hyperloop and airbus A380 (taken we wouldnt have had passenger airplanes before) i would be more sceptical of the latter.

Quite open for new Ideas and Innovation been tried out

And you would have been correct. How long did it take to go from the first flight to large passenger airplanes? At least 6 decades. That's how long new technology takes to become viable. The hyperloop will probably be viable in 30-40 years as technology improves. It's a farce right now and nowhere near viable with our current materials science.

Agree that technology is likely not on required level yet.

There seems to be a large gap what they want to do and where there are now in tems of getting the promised speed. Getting even the vacuum, costs , safety plus plenty of other issues. once they have long enough line built we can really see how far it is or is it worth continuing now.

Like the idea in theory and interested to see them trying it out and see where it takes us.
(At the moment not very far based on some tests

I just did based on your recommendation and I came to the conclusion that him criticising first runs is akin to criticising the Wright brothers' first attempts. Of course they end in failure. He didn't present anything that makes what Elon is trying to accomplish impossible within the laws of physics.

Maglev in a vacuum variants have been around for a long time.

Possibly the combination with uber variants make it a little more reasonable since travelers stuck without a car on one end could be less of an issue.

cost effectiveness of creating partial vacuum states in a tube doesnt seem like that big a deal, as long as failure doesn't have catastrophic consequences.

Seems like just using fans to create cheap and manageable negative pressure states, could be a reasonable compromise
