Breath in, then out. That's a good moderator. Maybe take some time off this week. Find a happy place.

You are responding to the wrong person. But I expect that.

I just took a long weekend and was within 45 minutes driving distance (no train) of the happiest place on earth: Disneyland. I passed on the opportunity and instead read a book about dead philosophers. I also drank beer out of a glass that was properly chilled in the freezer to a high standard of entropy. Peace and tranquility reigned the entire weekend. No necessity for alternating my normal breathing patterns, which my medulla regulates in fine fashion.

General comment:

And entropy by the way is a measureable definite quantity given in energy units (usually Joules)/Temperature (usually Kelvin scale) - Or Joules/Mole Kelvin if evaluating chemical reactions. Entropy is also a state function – an important concept and often misunderstood and/or misapplied by the layman.

Most people should stay away from any intended rational discussion of entropy or from interjecting the concept into dinner conversations or causal discussions. People just make themselves look ridiculous. Drinking beer would be a more valuable use of their time and they may even look less ridiculous as a consequence. But I could be wrong.

Re: Entropy in decision-making

It's also an information theory concept. Entropy is a measure of the amount of information in a message, or the unpredictability of a random variable. It is E[-ln(p(X))] where -ln(p(X)) is information.

It's related to thermodynamic entropy, and as explained on this page, thermodynamic entropy can be viewed as an application of information theory.

Hmm. So my understanding of entropy is wrong? Is 10yo tawny port ok by you guys?

I'll bite. Why do you expect that, and who's the right person?

A. Experience (plus the absence of free will if you want to go down that rabbit hole; I'll refrain).

B. You are.

Bonus thought: it is bad form for the SMP mod to engage/participate too much within the threads of the SMP forum itself. There are various reasons for this; some obvious, some less so.

I have to go. I am getting a beer from the fridge now, either try to stop me or join me. Or do neither, and choose something else less or more engaging.

I suspect I'm missing something deep, on the outside of a joke, or perhaps I've just been outleveled. Anyway, cheers!
