Anyone interested? MIT has their lecture notes and assignments online, I've always been interested, anyone else interested in going through the material with me as a "book group" type activity and discussing as we go along?

The idea would be to go through a section of the lecture notes and post questions or any useful insight as we go along.

Sign up in this thread if interested. We'll start in a week and try to go through at a moderate pace.

I'd be interested, but wouldn't we have trouble agreeing to the time of the "group activity" because of different locations everyone is in?

I'm a terrible flake at these book groups. But I'll give it a shot.

My lurk is much louder than my post in SMP, but I'm in.

I don't see anything in Group Activity- (I haven't read through it all, so I may have missed something). I doubt it would affect us too much, we could skip that part if needed.

Is having read something by Neil Strauss a pre requisite, or can I join first and play catch up?

How are you planning on doing this, are you planning on buying the books or what? I'm looking through the lecture notes (all thats really available) and I dont know how easy it would be to learn anything simply from those, without lecture audios or something.

I suggest we split up into a few groups so we don't approach too many of the same targets.

I was hoping to just to through the notes. I figured between all of us we could make some sense of it.... perhaps that is too optimistic.

Well I think the lecture notes alone wont cut it..

if we can get an organized way of doing this i think it would be a great idea, but id like to be sure we wont get 2 weeks in and be up a creek

one thing i'd like to mention is that i thought game theory was cool when i learned about the prisoner's dilemma, it's application to poker, etc, but when i actually started taking a game theory class, it sucked.

'game theory' sounds sexy, but seriously don't expect going through the MIT game theory course to be fun. i admire any of you that find it so.

I'd love this thing, but I'm out of action for the next month. I would attempt to play catch up with rigor though

I'm a huge geek with this kinda stuff, so it doesn't seem too bad to me. However, the lecture notes keep getting more and more cryptic, so we'd have to find somewhere else to start.

I took the course and loved it following the book "Introduction to Game Theory" by Peter Morris.
This website has what we did in the course (questions to answer and homework assignments). The book is cheap and very well written.

I used that template to teach the course to a high school student that wanted to learn game theory (I mentored him for a project on game theory at his high school), it was successful.

I would be interested in this, though like madnak, I might be likely to flake.

Also, I think I can help out w/ the lack of text problem, but that would be better discussed, *ahem*, away from the forums.

edit: of course everything would be legal. I would never think of doing something illegal.

This seems like a good idea. $32 used isn't bad.

Who is in for this idea? We need to find the book ourselves to do this.

i might be able to help in getting some class materials from the LSE game theory course if wanted

also just wanted to pop in and say that the prisoner's dilemma has been introduced in 4 of my undergraduate courses thus far. i am getting sick of it.

A preview of the book is available at google books, for those who want to take a look at its contents before they buy. Just thought I'd give the tip.
