Dire Straits
"Love Over Gold"
(lyrics below)

"Life is on the wire. Everything else is just waiting."

DIRE STRAITS LYRICS

"Love Over Gold"

You walk out on the high wire
You're a dancer on thin ice
You pay no heed to the danger
And less to advice
Your footsteps are forbidden
But with a knowledge of your sin
You throw your love to all the strangers
And caution to the wind

And you go dancing through doorways
Just to see what you will find
Leaving nothing to interfere
With the crazy balance of your mind
And when you finally reappear
At the place where you came in
You've thrown your love to all the strangers
And caution to the wind

It takes love over gold
And mind over matter
To do what you do that you must
When the things that you hold
Can fall and be shattered
Or run through your fingers like dust

Dinah Washington
"Long John Blues" (1949)
(lyrics below)

LYRICS:
I've got a dentist who's over seven feet tall
Yes I've got a dentist who's over seven feet tall
Long John they call him, and he answers every call
Well I went to Long Johns office and told him the pain was killin'
Yes I went to Long Johns office and told him the pain was killin'
He told me not to worry, that my cavity just needed fillin'
He said "when I start drillin', I'll have to give you novocaine"
He said, "Yes, when I start drillin', I'll have to give you novocaine
Cause ev'ry woman just can't stand the pain"
He took out his trusted drill
And he told me to open wide
He said he wouldn't hurt me
But he'd fill my hole inside
Long John, Long John, you've got that golden touch
You thrill me when you drill me, and I need you very much
When he got through, he said "Baby that will cost you ten"
Yes when he got through, he said "Baby that will cost you ten
Six months from now, come back and see me again"
Say you're supposed to see your dentist
'Bout twice a year, that's right
But I think I feel it bobbin'
Yes I'll go back there tonight
Long John, Long John, don't ever move away
Say I hope I keep on achin' so I can see you every day.

Re: Decent Modern Songs Part II

I've been listening to a lot of The Weeknd lately. I like R&B, basically I like all music, grew up listening mainly to rap/hip-hop which isn't the best ATM, but I will listen to anything if it sounds good - open minded to everything.

I liked Michael Jackson, The Weeknd reminds me of him in some of his songs, his singing voice is talented IMO

WARNING: SONG CONTAINS OBSCENITIES

Martha Wainwright
"Bloody Mother ****ing *******"

MARTHA WAINWRIGHT LYRICS

"Bloody Mother ****ing *******"

Poetry is no place for a heart that's a whore
And I'm young & I'm strong
But I feel old & tired
Overfired

And I've been poked & stoked
It's all smoke, there's no more fire
Only desire
For you, whoever you are
For you, whoever you are

You say my time here has been some sort of joke
That I've been messing around
Some sort of incubating period
For when I really come around
I'm cracking up
And you have no idea

No idea how it feels to be on your own
In your own home
with the ****ing phone
And the mother of gloom
In your bedroom
Standing over your head
With her hand in your head
With her hand in your head

I will not pretend
I will not put on a smile
I will not say I'm all right for you
When all I wanted was to be good
To do everything in truth
To do everything in truth

Oh I wish I wish I wish I was born a man
So I could learn how to stand up for myself
Like those guys with guitars
I've been watching in bars
Who've been stamping their feet to a different beat
To a different beat
To a different beat

I will not pretend
I will not put on a smile
I will not say I'm all right for you
When all I wanted was to be good
To do everything in truth
To do everything in truth

You bloody mother ****ing *******
Oh you bloody mother ****ing *******
Oh you bloody mother ****ing *******
Oh you bloody mother ****ing *******
Oh you bloody mother ****ing *******
Oh you bloody...

I will not pretend
I will not put on a smile
I will not say I'm all right for you
For you, whoever you are
For you, whoever you are
For you, whoever you are

So many good and righteous things in this world to get interested in; but no, what some people have really got to get into is the politics of hate.

T. Rex
"Bang a Gong Get It On"
(lyrics below)

T. REX LYRICS

"Get It On"

Well you're dirty and sweet
Clad in black
Don't look back
And I love you
You're dirty and sweet oh yea

Well you're slim and you're weak
You got the teeth
Of the Hydra upon you
You're dirty sweet
And you're my girl

Get It On
Bang a gong
Get It On

You're built like a car
You got a hubcap
Diamond star halo
You're built like a car
Oh yeah

You're an untamed youth
That's the truth
With your cloak full of eagles
You're dirty sweet
And you're my girl

Well you're windy and wild
You got the blues
I'm your shoes and your stockings
You're windy and wild
Oh yeah

You're built like a car
You got a hubcap
Diamond star halo
You're dirty sweet
And you're my girl

Cassandra Wilson
"Resurrection Blues" (Tutu)
(lyrics below)

cassandra wilson – resurrection blues (tutu) lyrics

The cool clear night
Stillness before the light
The blues move through
Resurrecting the old to new
And songs slept inside you
Until you call them out!

A baby cries
And a soldier prepares to die
The world spins by
As the stars cross the evening sky
And spirits move mountains
When you call them out

Come on

The cool clear night
Stillness before the light
The blues move through
Resurrecting the old to new
A song sleeps inside you
Until you call it up!
