the evidence of past philosophers pointed to phlogiston being real

good one. This is what we need. Challenge the current.

you're clearly missing the point. it is not anything to do with philosophy, it is to do with reality

He meant that. It was more like "how you are seeing reality" than being "about philosophy". Are you believing in much of what science has achieved? I do. (Testing you now)

i believe in what science has achieved, but think we have far way to go (ego of reality empiricists being we already understand nature in principal, which is far fetched)

What would it take for you to become convinced that randomness is a property of the universe?

We have a lot of data that suggests that radioactive decay is random. I grant that it could be wrong, but possibility and probability aren't the same.

don't think you can prove the unprovable

This is true, but this has nothing to do with anything I've said. I've already been explicit that I'm not holding a standard of infallibility.

But if you're saying that you're so stuck in your belief that no amount of evidence will make you change your position ("What would it take for you to become convinced that randomness is a property of the universe?") then I don't know why I should have this conversation with you.

You seem convinced that randomness is NOT part of the universe. How did you come to believe that? That statement is as unproveable as its negation.

i came to believe it trough experience. that experience i'm not willing to share

the very fact we exist is enough for me that randomness does not exist

and sorry if i'm being 'pseudo' or 'cryptic'. ... i don't know nothing about radioactive decay and i don't pretend

Fair enough. Then there's no purpose in continuing the conversation.

Since you went on and posted two more things....

It is not unreasonable to believe that there is some randomness and some non-randomness in the universe. There's no particular reason to take the all-or-nothing approach.

You may not be "pretending" but it does strike me as odd that you would speak strongly in a conversation when you know nothing about the topic. You should avoid doing that in the future.

well, I know a little, I got A* in Chemistry A-level over in England, but it is a foreign language to me when you talk about nucleus decay and etc. I just see the limits of science in the modern day world

I majored in statistics, minor in economics, then in grad school entered an ActSci program. Economics was by far the most useful. As far as math goes, + - * / is all you need.

I see limits, too. There are some scientifically-minded folk who don't, but most people who are actually educated about these sorts of things just laugh at them. But to make the opposite error of then rejecting all information (and rejecting that information out of hand) is equally laughable.

true and wise words

the unknown remains unknown... to me at least...i prefer writing than learning now....

(not to say I don't try and learn; I wouldn't be frequenting this sub forum if I wasn't trying to keep on learning)
