Re: Brain health/fitness

Thank you so far guys

I do work out very much and often. I eat super healthy(I mean like really... Im by far the healthiest eating person if compared with my familie/friends/collegues) Also I think sleep is not a problem I sleep regulary and I sleep well(I believe at least^^)
Now I understand that I need to try out more new stuff like surfing or whatever and I for sure going to do this more but now what about the more practiacal stuff? Like Lumosity... Im still not sure what do think of that website. What about some very practical oriented books? Are there some when you can test your self or which guides you through some sort of training?

And abotu the limitless movie... Pills are not an option

Try not to drown. In general doing new things exercises the noggin, but if your goal is only to increase your smartliness, it is best to avoid oxygen deprivation.

As long as it is free (which it isn't) and fun (best to pick activities you will stick with for a bit) you can't lose.

Probably better to learn whatever suits your current fancy without regard to noggin-improvement. Your noggin will thank you.

What do you want to do with your improved noggin? If you just want to be smarter, I'd suggest that you dig a little deeper and let us know why so we can answer (and argue amongst ourselves) in a meaningful way.

For some people it is directly related to creativity. Sometimes it is best to be less careful in coming up with ideas. Alcohol is a lubricant.

For others, resveratrol protects the noggin.

Probably best if the village drunk isn't all you are.

Actually I missed it because why is Brain health/fitness not in the Health and Fitness forum? Yeah I know but still.

Curiosity.

Remember curiosity cured the cat not killed the cat.

The more you know the more you can know.

A few weeks ago I was in front of my computer at 11PM and was exhausted and ready to go to sleep early. I checked my recently added "favorites" and noticed a link about a possible neurological problem with my 95 year old. See my location. I started reading neurosurgery journal abstracts, you can't get the full article without paying, and the next thing I know it is 2AM and I am wide awake.

Perhaps OP is already doing Starting Strength and drinking a Gallon Of Milk A Day, in which case health and fitness is unlikely to provide additional guidance.

Re: Brain health/fitness

Which is why I answered my own question with "I know".

H&F is fairly narrow in focus but there are good and knowledgeable people there. I am figuring out what is the best way to introduce my link above to H&F

And yes I started Starting Strength 2 months ago and it was just what I needed..

does anyone have any links to studies showing the generalized benefits to intelligence of anything other than sleep, diet, and exercise?

i've been under the impression that for the most part doing something like lumosity improves your skill at lumosity without carrying over to anything else.

Re: Brain health/fitness

Although not directly related to cognition:

http://www.healthyeatingstartshere.c...Kw2tj_2ws46U1m

Some nutrients are deemed necessary for proper brain functioning, omega 3 is one of which, which many people don't have enough in there diets.

There's also lots of additives that have negative effects on brain functioning.

Re: Brain health/fitness

Eat blueberries and foods rich in B1, B6, and B12 vitamins.

Blueberries helps prevent oxidative stress that leads to neurodegenerative diseases. The B vitamins help your nervous system and circulation. You have to replenish B vitamins everyday because your body flushes a lot of them away everyday.
