If you want in on the $20 draw contest, please pm me and I'll tell you where to ship the $ for escrow. I can take paypal, amazon, or btc. We'll do separate bets for the gentlemen's and ladies' draws so there's no obligation to do both if WTA isn't your favourite thing.
Draws will come out on friday. Anytime before the start of play on monday the 29th, post your picks in this thread. Please post your picks with the last name of the winning player for each round, like in this example: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...9&postcount=78
This might seem like a lot of work, but it actually makes it much easier for me to copy/paste into a spreadsheet for adding up the points and comparing picks.
The scoring system for the gentlemen's is (for each correct pick):
it'd be cool to see Federer get that last major win, and how on earth is he still #2 he hasn't even done much in the last year bunch of slankers around him
I know people have been saying this for like 4 years, but it does kinda feel like this might be one of FEDGOAT's last legit shots at a Grand Slam title.
I hope he makes a run here, nothing is more fun than seeing Federer playing his best at Wimbledon. 08 Final still the GOAT tennis match.
How does one go about securing a ticket to Wimbledon? I'll be in London starting on the 29th
Tickets for the show courts (Centre, 1, 2 +3) are hard to come by. There is a public ballot every year, this however has long since finished.
The best way to still get show court tickets is via Ticketmaster, the day before each days play Wimbledon put several 100 face value Centre Court and Court 3 tickets up on Ticketmaster. You have to be VERY quick though, you have to request them exactly when they come online, I was sucsessfull doing it last year so it can be done. They usually go in about 10/15 seconds. The link at the bottom of my post gives you more details on that.
If this fails then you can always queue up on the day. Unless you camp overnight then you almost certainly won't get a show court ticket, however if you get to the queue at around 7am then you should get a £25 Ground pass ticket which allows you entry to every court except centre, 1, 2+3. You will have to be prepeared to wait around 4 hours if you queue but they are very well organised and you spend most of the queue waiting in a nice park. You'll also get a queue card with a number so the Steward will be able to confirm if you are far enough to the front to definatly get a ground pass.
I'm sad to announce that Ryan Harrison won't be competing, he lost to clay court specialist Guido Andreozzi in the first round of qualifying, who had won a whopping one previous grass match in his career.
Simona Halep has changed coaches again, according to multiple publications.
Various reports, including on the WTA website, say the Romanian is now working with Daniel Dobre, having begun the season with Victor Ionita. Both coaches are Romanian. Halep also took on Thomas Hogstedt as a consultant for the first three months of the season.
The 24-year-old has changed coaches frequently during her recent climb up towards the top of the WTA rankings. She stopped working with Belgian coach Wim Fissette during the 2014 off-season despite reaching a Grand Slam final and having the best season of her career, saying she wanted to work with someone from Romania. Halep had also switched coaches the previous year, despite winning multiple titles and reaching the Top 20 in the rankings.
The decision to change came following Halep's defeat at Birmingham, according to Romanian press. The world No. 3 is said to also be working with Darren Cahill, a consultant for adidas, during Wimbledon.
Halep has won three titles this year, but did not perform up to her standard during the clay season, falling in the second round of the French Open. "On clay I had too much pressure," she said at Birmingham.
"Now I just want to go on court and play how I know. I don't want to think like I have something I have to do," she said.
Can Halep still win a GS? I remember I was part of the camp that wasn't a believer but then came around a bit. Now I'm not so sure. Her mentality hasn't seemed to improve and she still questions herself in the biggest moments. The peak may have come and gone.
