Goalkeepers: Agreed we're set. Timmay should still be around and we're plenty deep.

Defense: Jones is an intriguing idea. Agree with a lot of your names. I'll throw Tim Ream in the hat as well. I don't know if you've had a chance to watch him, but I've watched him plenty and the kid's a stud. Obv it's hard to project but there's at least a possibility he becomes an option at CB if he develops the right way.

Midfield: Agreed, we have a very bright future in midfield imo. I think there's a good chance Stu Holden is going to turn into a legitimate star. He's already at Bolton and they love him there apparently so that's a great start. The kid's legit for sure.

Bradley is the future of the USMNT, I don't think there's any doubt about that.

I'd love to see Torres get to La Liga or somewhere. I think he's another one with big star potential, particularly if he gets a little more steel.

Agreed about Edu, Landy, Deuce, Benny etc. being solid options. I hope Bedoya becomes a stud, big potential.

Forwards: It cracks me up that you talk about the "crown jewel's of the NYRB academy" as prospects like that. I've played with and against a bunch of those guys, including Matt Kassel more times than I can count. Frankly, I find it hard to believe Kassel could ever make it. I mean, he's a sick player without a doubt, but he just can't be international quality I don't think. MLS maybe, USMNT no imo.

Agreed about Marcus Tracy. Just a ridiculously sick athlete. He's another one that I've met and hung out with, and I'd like to see him do well. He's an absolute monster in the air, unbelievable jumping ability and great timing. I'm drooling thinking about Stu Holden playing set pieces and him rising over everyone and heading them home.

What ever happened to Jose Angulo? He was another one of those future prodigies and last I heard he was headed overseas...anyone know where he ended up?

I hope Charlie can ever get back to the level he once was at.

Jozy has ridiculous potential and is still so young. He should be a starting striker for at least the next two cycles as long as he develops and improves like he should. Since we're only ever going to play with either one or two out and out strikers, I'm pretty comfortable at this spot going forward.

Also, let's call in Andy Najar ASAP amirite?

Gonna read that 2014 post as soon as the Lakers game is over. Looks like a good read.

I think Germany is a terrible matchup for us, and we'd be very significant underdogs. I'm an optimist generally but I can't see a way through them, tbh. I think our biggest chance at a run is certainly to win the group and then we'll have a much much much easier road.

We'll see some new players coming up within the next 2 years. The same thing happened after the last WC. We'll probably see some new guys playing in the 2011 Gold Cup and then the U20 WC in 2012 (IIRC). Joze, Edu, Adu, and a few others really shinned at that tournament.

Playing years 20-24 in the EPL should really help Jozy out right?

Haven't been super impressed with Ream yet. Obviously NY likes him because they keep giving him minutes (when he's not suspended) so I'll defer to them but I haven't been blown away.

I didn't mean to imply that Kassel and Johnny X where USMNT prospects. Obviously if Kassel's spent more than 1 year at Maryland he ca't be considered too seriously yet. But you have to admit that 2-3 years ago NYRB had a gigantic boner about these kids coming through their system.

Wow I had completely forgotten about him. It took a few minutes of searching but it appears he's playing for the PDL team Central Jersey Spartans right now:

Tremendously. It's really almost impossible to overstate how much it will help (and has helped already) him.

Jozy's future is up in the air.

Villareal still owns his contract, he was just on loan with Hull. Hull had an option to buy at £6m but crashing out of the Prem means they have no money.

Judas is very likely to leave Villareal and had back to the land of calzones and underperformance though, so there is going to be a starting spot open with the yellow submarine.

It will be interesting to see what happens, but this is definitely an important tourney for him if he's going to get picked up by another club.

him and Charles Renkin but it's going to take a lot for a 20 or 21 year old to make it.

He was on loan to Hull, his main contract is with Villareal in La Liga.
06-17-2010 , 10:01 PM
So hard to predict, had anyone really heard of Thomas Muller or Badstuber even a year ago? Not comparing any of our younguns to those guys as prospects, but guys seem to come from nowhere fairly often.
06-17-2010 , 10:01 PM
The fact that Villarreal gave Hull the option to buy Jozy outright seems worrisome to me (unless the price was some loltastic amount).
06-17-2010 , 10:04 PM
It was $11m

Poland is about the same level as USA. You can even put Finland around there.
Some euro up there posted AGAIN that the US is about the same as Poland right now.

I'll issue a challenge to anyone who thinks so to do a debate and loser is banished from SE/2P2/the internet. That's how tired that argument is. It's not remotely close, the USA is significantly better than Poland at soccer right now.

IT'S
NOT
REMOTELY
CLOSE.

DO

Just let it roll off 'ya man. It is like someone saying Clemson is as good as Duke. We know it is LOL material to the extent that we don't have to explain / back it up anymore.
06-17-2010 , 10:33 PM
that would infuriate me as well

this is why i need to be constantly trolling the other thread, because if i'm not constantly trolling i'm vulnerable to the counter-troll.
