Beasley was basically great. LOL anyone who blames him for the goal, that's all on the central mids/defenders not providing cover. And Wood for whiffing a ball he chested down that led to a breakaway.

Acosta is a 21 year old monster box-to-box player. Was shaky early in the game and then grew up by 60 minutes in. Thank God we don't have Jurgen trying to play him as a RB anymore.

Hopefully all the kids get unleashed at the Gold Cup this summer (J. Gonzalez, Miazga, Acosta, Pulisic, Roldan). Not against Bruce saying "**** it" and bringing Sargent in either. Just need one "injury" to another forward.

Methinks Pulisic is a decent candidate to be transfered with a new manager at Dortmund. I honestly don't see the point in taking him to GC. Kid's done enough. Send him back to Europe for a full summer to get in the plans of his new manager (no matter where he goes). The worst thing that could happen to him is a season of fewer than ten appearances because he got behind the 8 ball cause he couldn't train with the first team club in preseason. It's scuttled the season of promising USMNT youngsters recently (see: Hyndman, Emerson).

Has there been anymore written on Beasley starting yesterday and playing the full game? Pretty incredible.

Here's another hot take: Fabian Johnson is no longer a penned-in starter. Does he stay at RM? Go back to LB? Seems like Arena, miracle of miracles, wants to play his guys at the positions where they play for their club. Johnson's spot on this team is competitive and while he's definitely the "best" player in the mix that doesn't necessarily mean he's the best for the team.

Kellyn Acosta is interesting too. That group that's hitting 19-22 was super ****ing talented though they almost always underperformed in jr tournaments (thanks, Tab). It was only a matter of time until some of them broke through. I didn't think it would be Pulisic, Acosta, and Arriola but here we are. I really thought Hyndman, Rubin, and Wright were the class of that bunch.

also have to disagree and say Yedlin was not great. several defensive lapses and getting beat off the dribble/conceding too much space to the man with the ball in the scoring third/not closing out quickly in dangerous spaces.

edit: agree w Guzan statement. i was way off pre-game. Howard>>>>Guzan.
fwiw, Jeff Carlisle agrees w/ Clark (perhaps I'm being a bit too critical and not considering Cameron's total body of work y'day.

"I think today defensively we were fantastic," added Cameron, who on a team full of heroes could make a strong case to win the man of the match award. "We just allowed them to get some crosses in the box, and we had more numbers in there, and cleared them out. It's a learning experience for us as a team. We dealt with a lot of pressure. Everybody stepped up."

Gotta disagree with leaving Pulisic out for GC. We need to win this to book a spot in the Confed Cup Qualifier next time around. Especially with Mexico being forced to send a B team. He can sit out the 2019 GC if they decide that's best. I will say however that I'll be in favor of heavy rotation during the group stage. Nobody should even sniff 270 minutes.

I wouldn't be against Pulisic sitting out of the group stage now that I think about it. Join after. We've done that with players lots of times before.

If there's a joint wc between Mexico USA oh Canada, who gets the automatic bid? How's that work
US Men's National Soccer Team Thread: USA #1 Quote
06-13-2017 , 02:48 PM
I suspect all 3 will. Keep in mind that it will be a 48 team WC, so 3 more teams would still be able to qualify from CONCACAF even if they give all 3 auto bids. Maybe they'll say **** Canada and make them enter qualification, but I doubt it.

USA/Mex should just give one autobid to lolCanada and agree to try and qualify. It's not like they're going to fail with 5 more slots anyway.

SK/Japan both got an auto bid in '02
US Men's National Soccer Team Thread: USA #1 Quote

ya it'd pretty much just be giving LolCanada a free pass given that Mexico & USA#1 are about locks to qualify, and not really that big a deal to let such a bad team in if it's an expanded field. they wouldn't be the first bad team put into a big tournament.

still, i don't really even want it that way. not the free bid, or the larger field. but it's probably all inevitable.
