Wood v. Pulisic on FS2

Wood starting, Pulisic on the bench. Wood had a shot saved when he was clean through 1v1 with the keeper. Should have finished. Dortmund opened the scoring shortly thereafter

Yup, watching high energy Borussia Dortmund is fun. Big game coming Saturday 12:30pm EST, Bayern München vs Borussia Dortmund, Fox Sports 1. Hopefully Christian Pulisic plays after not starting a couple games for unknown reasons.

Unknown Reasons

Ousmane Dembele
Gonzalo Castro
Shinji Kagawa
Mario Gotze
Marco Reus
Andre Schurrle
Emre Mor

(I know some are hurt but you get the point)

Surprised to see Pulisic is actually 4th on the Dortmund team in total appearances

Wow, both starting lineups are just loaded with top players in the world. Bayern at home should win I guess. Hope to see at least one swarm of BVB bees attacking Bayern with a goal.

Yeah, we have a teenager playing pretty well in a match between the top two teams in Germany.

Now if only we could have like 3 more of them. Anybody hear anything from Haji Wright after his January training? There was some optimism that he could see some 1st team benches with Schalke this spring. He was apparently showing well in their youth side. I still think he's the most gifted talent/physical package of the US u20

Re: Haji Wright

Manager recently said that no one in the junior teams was really pushing into the pros and the u19 are still in a championship dogfight so I don't think he's gonna get any benches. Probably better for his development to be a leading figure there anyway. I think he did play in a test game with the pros a few weeks ago.

I can't claim to be an expert on the youth setup and haven't seen them at all so not much insight here. There's not too much hype surrounding him which was different with former academy standouts like Kaan Ayhan, Leroy Sané and Max Meyer (or Özil if you wanna go way back). His stats (limited as they are) also don't stand out which is a bit discouraging because he's one of the oldest players of a team full of players in their first year of eligibility.

This is his last year of junior football I think so we'll see if he gets a pro contract from Schalke. Unfortunately our u23 team is a waste and about to go down to the 5th division so that won't be an option for him. So it's to the Bundesliga team (possible loan) or finding a new club for him I'm pretty sure. Will be an interesting summer for Haji

Thanks for that. He's another unfortunate tale of a USer that was ready to go abroad a few years before he was allowed. Those two wasted years in NY likely cost him a good deal.

Just got an email from USA soccer. Apparently USA, Canada, and Mexico put in a joint bid to host the 2026 world cup.

Assuming 12 cities:

Definite imo:
Mexico City
Nyc (aka new jersey)
La
Chicago
Toronto
Vancouver

That's 6. So 6 more:
Some other Mexican city? Do they exist?
Montreal
Sf
Boston
Atlanta?
Phoenix?
PacNW?

Portland or Seattle seems like a must. Portland probably too small though. Meh Vancouver likely kills the chance for either.

If FIFA isn't ok with temporary grass, I think that limits the Canadian options to Toronto and Edmonton.

Chivas has a nice stadium in Guadalajara.
