Interesting, I don't think he favored either team but I also thought the guy had no idea what he was looking at. He let a bunch of fouls go which is often praised as "letting them play" but impacts the game incorrectly just as much as calling too much.

I saw the entire game. It was completely awful. Panama created more chances but none of them too good.

USA will be fine, average team at the back, great up front ( for concacaf standards), although they may be lacking a natural goalscorer. Is Dempsey still good at world cup level? Right now the team is 9 MLS guys and 2 young exciting bundesliga players. If Pulisic and Wood starts to bang them in then USA could become top 15 material looking at 2022.
USA are the kind of team that will always look worse than what they really are because their midfield is not very good at passing the ball and on those Concacaf pitches its even worse. The problem they have is that they dont really have experience against better sides and I think Pulisic and Wood are the kinda guys that could exploit the space those sides give( Im thinking Chile for instance who today were really careless at the back).

With regards to the result, the draw is preety much what USA needed to seriously risk the 3rd spot.

Panama can seriously qualify. They have Honduras and Trinidad & Tobago at home. If they win those then they are looking incredibly likely to qualify to the playoff game.
The bad news for them is that this year the team that plays the playoff will probably be at least very experienced. South Korea and Australia are in danger, specially Australia. But then again if those sides struggle to overcome Ubzekistan or Saudi Arabia they cant be that good.

Aron is really on the outs at werder. Healthy but barely plays

I think it will be Uzbekistan or Saudi Arabia. Australia doesn't seem that good this time around though. Mostly I'd be worried about South Korea, but they are probably too good to fall back to 3rd and lose the playoff tie vs. the other 3rd place team.

In other CONCACAF news, apparently this happened yesterday. Haiti won the first leg 3-1.

The playoff is against the winner of the playoff not the loser. Asia has 4.5 spots only.

The problem Australia has is that even if they beat Saudi Arabia which isn't a given they will have to face Japan away next and if they lose that then Saudi Arabia will play against Japan at home with Japan already qualified.

Damn, they care that much about just getting IN to the Gold Cup?

Ahh damn, you're right, so there's an outside chance it could be S. Korea.

If Australia beat S. Arabia they have the added benefit of having a gimme at home vs. Thailand where they can probably swing the tiebreaker back in their favor which would be huge b/c both SA and Aus ending on 19 or 20 points is a decent possibility.

Jozy gets a bad rap because he doesn't play the way people expect him to.

He's a physically imposing beast who should never play the pure 9 role. His best seasons as a professional have been when his team is playing the ball on the ground. His best showings with USMNT have been with a second striker next to him who he can interchange with.

That's why I would have subbed him off early in the second half against Panama. He won't thrive in a system where he has to play back to goal and try to track down balls hoofed 60 yards forward.

I think it's because he has the worst first touch in the history of sports

he gets a bad rap because he's a flat track bully that has been **** when he's tried playing at higher levels. Yes, he's physical, but, his touch is bad and he's not really all that good leading a line or running the channels to open up space for someone like Dempsey.

He can bully lesser teams, but, against any proper team, all of his weaknesses are greatly exposed. The fact that we haven't been able to develop a striker or two ahead of him is a problem. Hopefully Jordan Morris and Bobby Wood can make that a moot point and relegate Altidore to playing against CONCACAF minnows

Area man stands in front of the net against Trinidad and Tobago, occasionally scores

I actually think Jozy serves a purpose but he should never be first choice. Also agree he's best with a striker to play off him but the bottom line is he's really not that good.

Jozy is beyond terrible. He would be solid in a sub role coming on 10-15 minutes but other than that. Nah.

Reminds me of a much worse bony but prob just because of his physical presence.

Would like to see Wood/Morris up top together just to see what happens but if Deuce keeps putting the ball in the net it's hard to take him off the field. What a ****ing champion he is.

Jordan Morris is pretty bad. He's like an average to below average MLS player who bossed some college kids for a couple years

Shoulda went. Might have developed into a player and realized his potential. Instead he's wasting away in MLS

He reminds me of Chris Armas and I think he'd be a great match for Wood in a 2 striker partnership. Agree that he's nothing special but, still, who else do we have?

Armas was a defensive/deeper CM while Jordan Morris is a striker. How are they comparable?

Drunk me mixed up Chris Armas and Clint Mathis. I meant the latter. I think I'm just getting old.
