The 2014–15 UEFA Europa League is the 44th season of Europe's secondary club football tournament organised by UEFA, and the 6th season since it was renamed from the UEFA Cup to the UEFA Europa League.

Last year's winners: FC Sevilla (3rd UEFA Cup/EL title in 8 years!)

Runner-up: S.L. Benfica (back-to-back runner up, no international title since 1962, 8 lost finals since then)

Quote:
After the 1962 European Cup Final, Guttmann approached the Benfica board of directors and asked for a pay rise. However despite the success he had brought the club, he was turned down. On leaving Benfica, Guttman allegedly cursed the club, declaring "Not in a hundred years from now will Benfica ever be European champion".
So, who will win it this time?

DER MARKT has Tottenham/Everton/Inter/Sevilla/Fiorientina as first-tier favourites.

Will Wolfsburg be taking this seriously? I would have thought they'd be in that same tier as the teams mentioned as favs in the OP.

Looking back at the odds, they are in the same tier, yes.

Will see if I can get tickets for the Brugge match - do you know when they open the sale?

All in all, definitely not an ideal draw (based on my very limited knowledge), but it should make for a couple of decent matches.

is who plays home/away in the last qualifying round rigged? curious as to how gladbach seem sure they're playing home first leg and have shifted their first league game to the sunday already

We've been allowed to switch around home/away ties for last two seasons in the CL qualifying rounds.

Supposed to play KR in Scotland first and I know we switched the Cliftonville game last year - both clubs got a big home crowd as the tie wasn't over yet and both got TV money (we let Cliftonville keep all tv money from the home leg, don't know if we did the same with KR).

So not rigged but left up to the clubs I think if they can justify it.

I know a few lads that booked for the Cliftonville home game on the original date in Glasgow, ****ing idiots were told to wait because it may be rearranged. Lol arseholes.

In Sarajevo ahead of our wedding this weekend (fiancée is a Bosnian born Croat) so we managed to catch the FK Sarajevo v Atromitos first leg. First time at a game in Eastern Europe which was pretty cool. The ultras brought it pretty hard all match despite the crappy weather. Sarajevo definitely the better team for long stretches but gave up too much space while defending and it cost them twice. Left back scored a cracker right in front of us which was awesome. Really hoping they can pull it out in the second leg in Greece, going to be tough giving up the two away goals though.

As a side note does anyone have any idea why some of the players wear not traditional jersey numbers? It looked like an NHL legends game with #s 99, 88 and 77 running around out there.

No. Dodgy streams only.

Surprised Dier is starting as he'll probably need to play RB this weekend.

PLEASE SCORE A COUPLE OF GOOD GOALS SOLDADO

Won 2-1.

Lamela came on in the '72 and had 2 assists (Soldado and Kane) and probably should have scored.

I hope to never watch a stream of that quality again.

Hopefully Soldado gets a bit of confidence from this: https://vine.co/v/MLOB5twO2zB

I just started focusing on naughton because at least then I couldn't tell when the stream was buffering. Paulinho, also bad. That said, I'm glad spurs are in europa this year, I get all the arguments against but for this team at this time it seems like an overall good thing.

LET'S GO MIDTJYLLAND! So annoyed I wasn't able to make the trip to Athens. The home match will be great though.

Time to make the group play for the first time.
