I like this. But this sort of suggests "recognizability" as a factor, which dings Walt as a good Top 10 pick because very few people watch Breaking Bad or would have a strong association/knowledge of Walt (relative basis of course).

Re: TV Character Draft

I think that if very few people watch a show or know a character then its absolutely fair to downgrade that character for this draft, but I could understand how others would disagree and not want this to be part of the criteria.

Re: TV Character Draft

This is not a popularity contest. A great character is a great character.

I think the point is the parameters of what makes a successful draft pick are still being defined. If "recognizability" is a factor, then I guess "popularity" will matter.

Obviously this draft didn't have set rules, so its out of line for any of us to think that we are right and others are wrong. My personal opinion is that popularity should matter for two reasons:

1. In past drafts(music label, tv network, movie studio, etc.) popularity has been one(out of many) factors

2. I think that the rules should never limit people and should empower them to draft as they like. I remember in the movie studio draft, for example, most people were mostly drafting according to personal preference with maybe some degree of popularity factored in...then someone who picked at the end of the 1st round came and just said "**** it, I'm gonna just draft hugely popular guys and have a kick ass money-making studio" and drafted Will Smith and Mel Gibson back to back. While I personally would rather draft according to my own likes moreso than popularity, if someone else wants to value popularity more and draft that way then I don't think we should stop them by saying "this is not a popularity contest, you cannot factor that in."

Re: TV Character Draft

I mean, if popularity matters to you, that's fine, but I think the general theme is "greatness", so it may be difficult to argue that sheer popularity is a selling point for a character outside of how it factors into greatness.

Re: TV Character Draft

Swearingin is definitely someone I considered and then rejected because of the period peace nature of the character.
