obviously if he played in the turkish league and not in the NBA, it would make sense, see why halfwit?

trololo

Are you really going to argue that he would be as effective in the EPL as CRon?

You may choose to discount that as a factor for greatness, I do not

I think Fat Ronny is a fair shout. If you cut off the "fat" portion of his career and just compared Messi to this point to that? In short I think that while Leo certainly has a chance, it's VERY premature to call him the GOAT just yet.

And before BarcaFan whines like, well, BarcaFan, it's not like it's a great insult to say a guy is only the 5th best player of all time rather than the greatest.

no. la liga is one of the two leagues that stand above the rest and also he plays CL vs all other euro leagues every year. it's not like we have no way of comparing him to other great players or see him against other great teams.

Ronaldo is the greatest. He dominated two of the most difficult leagues in the world (and certainly THE most difficult league at the time, Serie A). He singlehandedly won a Coup de Monde and he was a pure force of destruction.

There's no doubting Messi's genius, but he hasn't dominated the international scene like R9 did, and he has only dominated one league.
as aoFrantic already said he's the GOAT just maybe hasn't had the GCOAT yet! Can't let the fact he has been at the same club since a boy work against him.

And we all know he will destroy any league he plays in.

Right and two years in a row he sucked against Chelski

Yeah thats a lame sample size but it's not far fetched to look at his game, the system hes in, the fact that he plays in a "pretty" league, and extrapolate that he wouldn't have that amazing success in the EPL.

Meanwhile we have a player who scored 50 ****ing goals in that league, also pwning the CL and the same league Messi is playing in

It's one thing to say Ronaldo might be a better player then Messi, but to say that Messi wouldn't just destroy the EPL if he played with talent anywhere near what Ronaldo had with him in his United days is ludicrous.

Now that god concentrates on Denver Broncos games, this should lend some credibility to Messi for future GOAT.

Disclaimer: San Jose Earthquakes fan.

OTOH, I believe Pele in today's modern era would have an incredibly lucrative deal in Premier League or a similar entity in europe that's as free w/ their money [AC Milan, Barcelona].

I really don't think it's "ludicrous." You might disagree which is fine.

IMO it doesn't just tie into talent around him, it ties into the system and and how good the players are in that system. I also really think his size and physicality would affect his ability in the EPL or Serie A.

Again this isn't to knock him or claim he wouldn't be good, I was really looking to bolster CRon more than knock Messi

Is there cap space in MLS? I would give him like 3yr 300m deal.

So much fail.

R9 is the best, period. Even the "fat" version of Ronaldo was as much of a handful as Messi.

He is not quite the GOAT yet, but he's close and by the end of his career he will be.

/thread?

Incidentally, Messi would annihilate the EPL. The EPL is only tough to play in because of its physicality.

British football is mostly laughable with the exception of a couple of mostly foreign influenced teams.

Messi has to show he can produce consistently without the GOAT passing midfield (Xavi+iniesta) feeding him the ball imo.

I'd say he was more of a handful.

Incidentally, England has the highest standard and richest lower divisions of any country in Europe. Laughable indeed.

I dont think anyone can argue that to be the GOAT, you really need to bring a mediocre team to the WC final.
Maradonna did it.
Zidane did it.

Being the GOAT is above technics & skills...

This x 1000000000000000000000000000000000000. Btw Im not asking for a world cup final, all im asking is for him to show he is the best player in the world in the big stage.

Meh, not having Fat Ronaldo as the GOAT.

He has 2 WC medals but not buying the 1994 one, how many minutes did he play? Only 1 league title of note and 0 CL medals.

If your holding the WC over Messi then I gotta hold the lack of league titles and lack of CL medals over him.
