True or not, for all their wonderful attacking options, Germany was a better team. Germany and Spain will still be better in 3 years as well. Argentina should be the 3rd or 4th best team in 2014, and being in South America helps them a bit over their European competitors.

Jaysus,

They had Maradonna as coach in 2010, what did you expect.

Its not a fine distinction, Maradona could carry Argentina , Messi cant( for now).

different landscape in 86 though. The top teams that messi is going up against now are much better than what maradona had to go through in 86

Until he wins anything with NT he's far from GOAT.

The Hand of God goal is the stuff of legends. Anyway, I'm not sure Diego or Pele can be said to be better. Modern athletes have a higher level of ability, no doubt. Talent? Impossible to tell, really.

CRon> Messi

CRon is extremely underrated because of the way he gets haters mad. He excelled in a far more physical league, and has an amazing strike rate in La Liga. His game is far more transferable because of his physicality. Messi happens to play in the very perfect system on an amazing team that plays to his strengths.

Not a diss at all on Messi, but the discussion should be far more focused on that fact that two of the greatest players OAT are playing right now, not just Messi

CRON is a douchebag and a very weird dude and thus not eligible. besides, he isn't even the GOAT ronaldo.

R9 > MEssi >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> CR9

Ronaldo is the greatest. He dominated two of the most difficult leagues in the world (and certainly THE most difficult league at the time, Serie A). He singlehandedly won a Coup de Monde and he was a pure force of destruction.

There's no doubting Messi's genius, but he hasn't dominated the international scene like R9 did, and he has only dominated one league.

He only dominated one league because he's only been in one league. Which brings up a question from this uninformed American. How does the fact that a player was transferred factor into the equation? I've seen commentators compare basketball players and say that one is better than the other because their team never wanted to get rid of Player A but did want to get rid of Player B. So how does the transfer system work? Why did a rich team like Man U get rid of one of the two best players in the world? Why did
Ronaldo go from team to team to team in different leagues?

because he grew up in portugal and dreamt of playing for Real madrid, and you cant really stop a player moving if they want to that badly. From what I seen theres a lot more emotion involved in football than basketball when it comes to players and wanting to play for teams they grew up supporting.

Michael Jordan is overrated. He only played in one league. Should have gone to Greece or Turkey or Tajikistan to prove himself.

Well, it's a bit different in American sports where for the big 3 leagues the large majority of players are American and almost every team is in the USA. Even if you end up a Raptor or Blue Jay, Toronto isn't culturally too different from American cities. London is different from Milan as is Paris and Madrid and Barcelona.
