he may have a sore back but you can't play golf with anything remotely near a legit back spasm.

still was in the hunt tho.

Nobody, including Tiger, gives a flying **** how many tour wins he piles up. Everybody readily concedes that physically and technically he is super elite.

Stop hoping.

He wont be. Probably wont even be top 10 after that. I remember seeing somewhere he was 1-1.5 strokes per rd better since switching. 4-6 strokes a tourney is laughably huge.

Not totally true..last years club champioship day 2 I had an awfull sleep and suffered back spasms that caused me to wince, lay down in the fairway and other issues. The biggest problem i had was with the wedege as I couldnt get through and kept shanking it especially out of the sand.

Tricky tricky

Tiger officially a pretty big dog to tie Jack at this point.

38yo, 2-years into new swing and regular competition and is more inconsistent than ever before. Winning 4 majors in his remaining say 7-year window (which is generous considering his physical issues) is a monumental task. He's good enough that he should still get 2 from here, somehow, but tying Jack let alone 20(!) seems really remote.

Agree. He's a pretty huge dog to tie the record, I'd probably take the under on 1.5 at this point.

But he's still Tiger, and it wouldn't shock me to see him put it together and dominate for a short stretch at some point.

How is it not huge when it will be Rory holding the record?

Yeah. Not winning any with how the venues set up last year and how well he played last year as a whole was a big blow for his chances

YE Yang/injuries/exposed infidelities just destroyed him. The former quite a bit. An unheard of Korean punking him proved to the rest of golf just how human Tiger is going forward. His mental edge has never had quite the same effect after that day

Lol Rory's WIL is never going to allow him to sniff the record. He might have the talent but dude just doesn't work hard enough.

YE Yang, who has done nothing since then, didn't punk him. Tiger had a bad day, Yang didn't fold. It happens. He was 14 for 14 with the lead going into Rd 4 before that. I have no idea why the media/idiot fans don't understand statistical variance and thought that he'd go X for X over the course of a 25-30 year career when sleeping on the Saturday night lead. It was bound to happen; Yang ended up being the guy. C'est la vie.

He blew leads to start the 3rd round in both the '00 PGA and '05 Masters at the conclusion of 72 holes, only to win in a playoff anyway. It's not as if it were impossible for TW to lose when in front.

I'd love to know what mathematical model someone would be using to make this prediction, considering he's 2 for 21 over the course of 5+ years. Doesn't translate to auto-getting to 18 or 19.

Lol Rory is more worried about playing stink finger with his girlfriend than winning majors.

May not play in Masters due to his back. He's broken. GG Jack, you're safe.

But he's 34 and one major away from being 35. He needs 5 more professional majors to pass Jack. 5 Majors from age 35 on is far from a lock the way he looks right now. I'm too lazy to look it up, but 5 majors won at 35 or older has got to be something only Jack accomplished (he won 6). I'm sure BO can come here and tell me I'm not a true fan for not knowing that one off the top of my head - maybe someone else won 5 from that age, I don't know.

He just shot 2 over par 74 at Firestone, a course he loves. Looks like he may not qualify for the Ryder Cup (!) and seems almost certain to lose the world #1 spot to Phil in the next few weeks. No swing coach in place. Personal life still in flux. Doesn't look good.

For the first time in a long time I think it really is fair to ask "does he get there".

If he doesn't, the whole GOAT discussion will get a lot more interesting.
My original post from 4 years ago. Four years gone and no majors, and continued health issues, and approaching 40yo playing against fields that are deeper than ever.
