People are certainly wired differently.
I used to be a S.F. Giants fan (living on the east coast) because of Will the Thrill Clark. I had to stop liking the Giants because of Barroids Bonds. Sure, the steroids thing was bad, but it was his douchebag attitude that did it. I would keep reading and hearing interviews that clearly showed what an ahole he was. I couldn't even watch Giants games with the same love that I once had. I (and maybe I'm rare in this case) could not get over the ahole factor that Bonds added. As far as watching the best swing ever, there are plenty of non-enhanced swings that are amazing. There are plenty of "bests" out there to keep fans happy. One might not have to look further than this post (Will Clark's swing sure was sweet).
And calling swinging a bat an "art" is not the same thing as a creative work that an artist produces like a statue or painting. That is the definition of art that I'm not using here. I'm using the most common definition- as is described in the first two sentences
here. Obviously. The actor is working within a creative piece. The athlete repeats physical acts over and over again, especially with batting, so that the reaction can be fast enough to keep up with the speed of the sport.
I'm in the camp of liking (or not liking) an athlete based on talent and the type of person he or she is.
What I don't do is bash others for not being this way and liking athletes based purely on talent.
We all have a right to like and dislike who we want even if other people don't agree with
why we like them.
Confirmed David Robinson/Tim Duncan fan.
