if he goes out in the next major championship and just falls apart like he did this week i could see him just calling it quits this year. i doubt he retires but honestly who knows, i mean michael jordan retired in the prime of his career so it is possible.

People were saying exactly this back in 03-04. I remember having many drunken argument during that period with my friends dad about this very issue.

If another two years pass and he's still struggling, I might buy the idea that he will never be dominant again.

Until then I think he's earned the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Everything in his body language and speech after the final round yesterday just made him look completely resigned. He was saying something along the lines of, "I hope I can improve my results." Definitely not an attitude he has conveyed much, if ever, in his career.

I think he'll be fine, but it's looking like it might take longer than we've hoped.

I really doubt it would happen like this, but if he does go into a massive slump where he can't compete, loses his tour card, starts hitting the bottle like John Daly, etc. And then finally decides to re-commit himself to golf after a few years. ESPN would have a great opportunity for a reality series. "Tiger Woods: Restoring the roar" or something like that. Yeah, I'm off on a crazy tangent.

I know it sounds like I'm being a smart ass. But I wish there was an option of "I don't care if he ever makes another cut. But I truly rooted for him before". It's not that I hate him at all. I just feel like when he starts playing well they should start covering him more. I'm sick of hearing non-stop Tiger this and Tiger that.

heard on the radio today that he was the only player to place in the top 25 of all 3 majors thus far this year. dunno if it got fact checked, but still...

Woods so far: T4, T4, T23
Lee Westwood: 2, T16, 2

Those are the only two though. Matt Kuchar comes close @ T25, T6, T27

I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest. His head is clearly not in a good place right now and if you don't make good decisions in match play, you will get abused.

Having said that, the other big factor in match play is intimidation and he's still Tiger ****ing Woods. Not exactly the most fun guy to play against.

I have a feeling Pavin won't take him if he doesn't qualify though.

He can't really lose his Tour Card. He's won so many tournaments I believe he's earned a lifetime exemption on the PGA Tour.

My nitty thanks to the poll maker who had the foresight to state professional majors unlike most. It will be interesting to see what happens if and when Tiger wins three more and ties Jack with 20 total majors. I promise you that's the number both Tiger and Jack are focused on.

As for almost half the voters saying 20+, I think many are voting subjectively rather than objectively.

Yes, some of us do believe that. He is a cancer to team spirit and cameraderie. He's a boring stiff and the most selfish player by far... all bad for a TEAM competition.

And... unfortunately... no, we are not. LOL

Tiger is the greatest WIM putter of all time. Its clear that he hasn't been able practice as much as he needs to in order maintain his prowess on the greens. He ran bad in 2009 wheb he should have won at least one major. He wiLl be back as soon as he gets back on track with putter imo.

These are things which are fun to write about but ridiculously overrated. Golf is an individual sport, a pro isn't going to try any more or less hard in his match because Tiger Woods is on his team.

If ALL OTHER things were equal I suppose you could look at the chemistry element to break the tie, but any argument against him being on the team which is rooted in team spirit deserves to be dismissed out of hand.

I'm surprised that he hasn't begged out of consideration somehow in the self-interest of shutting it down in coming weeks and going back into hibernation for the rest of the year. Although I am prone to rooting against Tiger, I have to give him credit if he really does want to be a captain's pick and contribute considering there is little money, lots of travel, and potentially hostile crowds.

He is probably not getting enough strange snatch and it's hurting his game. Stick to your routine Tiger.

All I know is, I went thru a divorce and even tho I wanted out and it was more amicable of a parting than most (no vulture lawyers, yea!) It still took me TWO FULL YEARS before I felt I was "me" again. Tiger's a freak... but he's still human like you (but not me lol).

Bump.

Looks like a dog to get past Jack now IYAM. Injuries piling up. Young guns all starting to get a bit better and more established. 18 has never looked so far away.

This is why speculating on young guns to pass big records is normally silly since injuries play a huge factor. Tiger even had the career arc but of course that fell off quickly. Most records like all time Majors wins are going to be pretty ridiculous to beat. I don't know exactly much about Jack's career but I'd assume he didn't get injured all that much.
