Bill Simmons on LeBron James's 2011 NBA playoffs meltdown, as well as a running diary of Hoosiers, in celebration of the movie's 25th anniversary
• Malcolm Gladwell on the NBA lockout
• Chuck Klosterman unearthing a breathtaking junior college basketball game in North Dakota
• Colson Whitehead on his journey to the World Series of Poker
• Jane Leavy remembering her father
• Fiction from Jess Walter
Is this a parody, or...???

from the article it seemed like Dryden wants to eliminate "big hits", which sounds like hits where the head isn't even a point of contact. you're right that it's currently already illegal to make the head the primary point of contact, but he wants to take it even further.

He's doing video podcasts now. seems like the sorta setup that could tuen into a tv show.

Also, in an espn Dallas piece, Tim McMahon used the term romo-coaster, which Simmons just used on the sal podcast. Pretty hackish iyam.

I've seen RomoCoaster all over twitter for a long time. That's nothing new at all.

And if it were, the chances Tim McMahon was the originator is like .0000000001%. He's probably the one of the worst sports writers on the planet.

yeah I meant that McMahon was copy-catting, not vice versa

Jerry West article was good, tho covered well-traveled ground. Renegade NBA article was a tremendous effort. The must watch factor for players redrafting the NBA would be off the charts.

The slight slur in Leonard's voice got to me after awhile on the podcast, had to turn it off, tho the content was damn good.

Spoiler:
Duran won the first Leonard fight by unanimous, not split, decision. Due to an addition error it was announced in the ring as a majority decision.

Grantland writers I guess just don't understand what that sort of list is supposed to look like. Issue of intelligence or comprehension or something?

Cleveland, Buffalo, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Washington, Seattle and Kansas City have to be the top 6 in some order (plus Toronto if you want to expand to all of North America).

New York and Boston...just wow.

I suppose passion for sports matters, as in, people actually getting sad/mad/whatever in those particular cities, which is why "Boston" makes sense in terms of the mega let down. But this is also a city which, days ago, unveiled the new Bruins banner all the while the Patriots continue to rape.

Cleveland deserves to be at the top for a long time. There is just such sadness involved with the city itself, in addition to the failure they call professional sports. The others you mention are all well more deserving than any city in the North East...

Buffalo has the Bills doing well, plus a rich new owner and promising season for the Sabres. Think they are off of suicide watch.

Boston on the list is a farce.
